Position Available: Blair Academy announces an opening for an experienced media and video studies teacher to join its fine arts department. In addition to being an enthusiastic, student-centered and collegial teacher who understands and enjoys adolescent culture and possesses an exceptional work ethic, qualified candidates will have:
- BA/BS in fine arts with a concentration on video production, photography and/or media arts; college coursework in these areas or an advanced degree and/or high school or higher education teaching experience, a plus;
- Demonstrated success with project-based, inquiry-based and interdisciplinary approaches;
- A passion for teaching introductory through advanced classes and working with students in grades 9-12;
- Filmmaking and photography skills and experience teaching video and photo courses;
- A working knowledge of the Adobe Creative suite, particularly Premiere Pro, as well as Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign and iMovie; a background in VFX/production processes is also essential;
- Oversight of all video equipment used by students; and
- Willingness to collaborate with other teachers and to learn new things, such as fabrication tools to be used in the makerspace.
Typical job responsibilities include:
- Teaching four sections, which may include video production, graphic design and photography;
- Coaching or assisting with a sport for two seasons or with activities for three seasons;
- Advising a group of 6 to 8 students; and
- Providing supervision for boarding students in the dormitory outside of the class day.
