Middle School Science Teacher
Beginning August 24, 2023
Position: Middle School Science Teacher
Reports to: Middle School Division Head and Science Department Chairperson
FLSA: Exempt, full-time
Salary Range: $62,000 - $85,000 annually, commensurate with education and experience
The MS Science teacher will join a highly collaborative, innovative, and experienced faculty. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated interest in middle school education, enthusiastic about science, and the ability to relate and communicate effectively and appropriately with middle school female students.
Responsibilities:
Courses: but not limited to
- 5th grade Biology (three sections) - Life Science Exploration
- 6th grade Physical Science (one section) - Earth Science and Astronomy
- Provide academic support for students outside of class time - answering homework questions, consulting with them, as needed
- Work closely with the Middle school academic dean and science department chair to create a robust and engaging curriculum appropriate for this age group
- Attend department and faculty meetings
- Support the students and division by covering study halls, emergency coverage, lunch duties and other assignments as needed.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in science required
- Master’s degree in science or teaching highly preferred
- Previous teaching experience required
- Candidate should be open to STEM collaboration with colleagues from different departments
- Demonstrate proficiency with using technology and scientific probes
- Create meaningful curriculum and lessons, that incorporate effective reading comprehension and study skills
- Deliver daily lessons using a variety of methods - lecture style, small group discussions, Cornell note-taking, etc.
- Exhibit excellent classroom management skills appropriate for Middle School students
- Design informative science experiments (e.g. dissections in 5th grade) and projects that help cultivate students’ learning
- Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communications skills
- Knowledge of, appreciation for, and demonstrated commitment to anti-racist, anti-bias education, multicultural teaching, and culturally responsive pedagogy
- Proficient with current educational technology, especially blended learning platforms and strategies
- Positive team player with a desire to contribute and share your gifts and talents with the students and administration of the school
