Nobles seeks an Academic Support Learning Specialist. Reporting to the Director of Academic Support, the Learning Specialist is a key leader in Nobles’ ongoing work to become a more diverse, equitable, just, and inclusive community. In their work to help support and communicate the unique needs of students to facilitate academic success and independence, the Learning Specialist will work closely with various constituencies within the Nobles community: students, faculty, staff, parents/guardians, and prospective parents and guardians.
Responsibilities
Academic Support for Students
- Coordinate and implement academic support for all students
- Build reading, writing, quantitative, and qualitative problem-solving skills
- Enhance executive functions such as task initiation and completion, organization, time management, sustained effort, self-advocacy, and self-regulation
- Work with teachers and advisors to keep students on track
- Learning Profiles
- Communicate students’ needs to faculty through the creation and maintenance of learning profiles
- Work with students and families to gather information (i.e., educational testing, medical documentation) as well as advisors and teachers to create a draft learning profile
- Construct a document that highlights key information for teachers and advisors relating to the students’ needs in the classroom
- Facilitate meetings with students, advisors, and parents/guardians to finalize learning profiles
- Connect with faculty to upload and share the final document
- Revisit and revise learning profiles annually as needed
- Middle School Liaison
- Meet primarily with middle school students, being available during the middle school study halls
- Be a resource for the middle school faculty and advisors
- The Learning Center
- Be present for specific hours in The Learning Center for drop-in hours for all students
- Resource for Faculty
- Assist the Academic Support Team in providing professional development to faculty
- Share resources with faculty, students, and families in conjunction with the Academic Support Team via workshops, emails, and social media
Competencies
The successful candidate will be able to:
- Work with Students
- Have a student-centered approach to learning
- Follow-up with students on caseload
- Review Learning profiles annually with students for any needed revisions
- In collaboration with the Academic Support Team, imagine, plan, and implement regular and ongoing educational student workshops to foster self-advocacy and metacognition among our student population
- Work with Families
- Serve as a resource for families whose children have learning disabilities
- In collaboration with the Academic Support Team, coordinate 1–3 family education workshops per year
- Work with Faculty
- Serve as a resource and work to develop faculty capacity and skills in working with students with learning disabilities
- Support teachers in understanding various disabilities and delivering reasonable accommodations that meet students’ needs
- Read, interpret, and translate educational testing into appropriate accommodations and/or interventions.
- Understand learning disabilities from both a neuropsychological and practical perspective and be able to recommend reasonable accommodations
- Be highly organized and have strong interpersonal and technological skills (preference for Google Suite Tools and Canvas)
- Communicate proactively
- Model a growth mindset by fully participating in individual professional development (i.e., feedback process, workshops, conferences, etc.) and should have the inclination and experience to work in a diverse community focused on issues of equity, inclusion, and social justice

Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree is required
- Prior experience working in the Academic Support field
- Enthusiasm for working in an independent school setting and desire to embrace the school mission and values
- Candidate must be able to pass a criminal record check in compliance with Massachusetts law
