Upland Country Day School is a coeducational, non-sectarian day school serving approximately 190 students in Preschool through grade 9. Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
Entrusted with the education and care of children, the Faculty at Upland promotes the best interests of the child within the context of the School’s mission and philosophy. Those who teach are responsible for the quality of their teaching, promoting their own growth, and modeling inclusive values in and out of the classroom. At the direction of the Head of Lower School, the Lower School Science teacher is responsible for designing and implementing a program for students in Pre-kindergarten through 5th grade that provides an introduction to scientific principles.
Classroom Responsibilities:
- Create an innovative program that introduces students to the scientific process and natural world.
- Prepare and execute thoughtful units of study designed to reach the different learning styles of the students in the classroom.
- Work closely with fellow Science teachers to ensure a cohesive curriculum.
- Seek community partnerships or programs to supplement classroom learning.
- Maintain a safe and engaging learning environment.
- Plan and facilitate field trips and on-campus learning activities through outside partners
- Foster an environment that promotes inclusivity and belonging, with an emphasis on representing and celebrating diversity of all kinds.
- Consistently and clearly communicate with colleagues, administrators, and parents regarding any student or classroom issues; prepare semi-annual report card comments.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Attend faculty meetings as determined by the Head of Lower School.
- Collaborate with teachers to ensure integration with other subjects.
- Actively participate in all in-service and orientation days.
Work Location/Hours:
This position is not remote and requires the candidate to be an active and present member of the campus community. Hours infrequently include nights, weekends and the occasional holiday relative to the school calendar.
Additional Skills:
The ideal candidate would also be willing to coach either field hockey, soccer, ice hockey or lacrosse at the middle-school level or maintain responsibility for another extracurricular student activity.

Minimum Requirements:
Applicants should have three to five years teaching experience teaching science in elementary grades K - 5. A bachelor’s degree is required; master’s degree preferred. Current clearances, including Act 34 - PA State Police Criminal Record Check; Act 114 - FBI Report and Fingerprinting; Act 151 - PA Child Abuse History Clearance
