St. Mary Academy - Bay View, an all-girls, independent Catholic School, Preschool through Grade 12, seeks a dedicated, experienced, and energetic communication professional to serve as the Director of Communications. Reporting to the President, the Director oversees all aspects of communications for the Academy and works closely with the Director of Admissions, Director of Advancement, and Academy Principal. They will be committed to the school’s mission of educating girls and young women and to the Critical Concerns of the Sisters of Mercy. This is a 12-month position.
- Prepare an annual communications plan to serve the needs of the Academy, including internal communications and external communications;
- Management of the Academy brand to ensure that all stakeholders are adhering to brand standards in internal and external communications;
- Create and disseminate internal and external communications, including but not limited to weekly newsletters, speeches, event programs, official academy emails, press releases, social media, student handbooks, and presentations;
- Plan and produce the annual magazine and annual report;
- Oversee and manage social media outlets with ongoing, consistent engagement and develop and provide original content to social media accounts on a daily basis;
- Serve as site administrator for the school website in collaboration with users across the institution: create and publish content and carry primary responsibility for site updates, functionality, and staff support;
- Write and disseminate press releases consistently to preserve a positive presence in traditional media;
- Work closely with the Director of Admissions to produce effective recruitment and marketing materials, including all advertisements;
- Provide input and editorial review of all advancement materials, including appeals and alumnae e-newsletter;
- Manage creation and distribution of videos as needed;
- Provide photography for social media and press;
- Organize, share, and maintain all photography files;
- Maintain crisis plan and sample crisis communications;
- Coordinate communications (internal and external) in crisis situations;
- Represent the Academy as spokesperson as needed;
- Serve as Academy contact to all media outlets, forging strong relationships with local press;
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in communications, English, journalism, or other related disciplines;
- At least five years of professional experience in communications;
- Demonstrably strong writing, verbal, planning, and organizational skills;
- Outgoing and enthusiastic personality with outstanding interpersonal skills;
- Strong public speaker;
- Familiarity with social media trends;
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and competing demands to identify priorities and meet deadlines;
- High professional and ethical standards for handling confidential information;
- Robust knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google products;
- Knowledge of iMovie, InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop a plus
