Manhattan Country School seeks an experienced Spanish language teacher to teach
conversation, vocabulary, grammar, and culture in a primarily Spanish-speaking
environment. Classes are grouped heterogeneously with beginners and fluent speakers.
The Spanish teacher engages students in cultural exploration and experiential learning
while building language skills with a goal of intermediate high school placement.

As part of the interview process for this position, we will ask candidates to demonstrate
their teaching experience as well as their content knowledge and skills. This position is
covered under the LOC2110 collective bargaining agreement with a salary range of
$55,000-$89,000 annually.

The Spanish Teacher is an educator who
? has full-time upper elementary or middle school teaching experience
? preferably has a Masters degree in Spanish or world language education
? preferably is a native speaker
? has strong knowledge of child development and progressive education
? provides examples of innovative pedagogy to promote inquiry and learning in
adolescents and evidence of capable writing
? commands a range of teaching methods to meet different learning needs
? integrates technology, including Excel, Google applications, Chromebooks,
projectors, etc.
? works closely with a dedicated team of teachers, the learning specialists, and the
Upper School Director
? takes initiative, has a sense of humor, and demonstrates strong listening and
communication skills
? preferably has prior experience in a diverse community or working collaboratively
to engage youth in community-building, social and environmental justice, and
activism
The Spanish Teacher is committed to equity and inclusion by
? collaborating with colleagues to ensure equitable practices in the classroom
? acknowledging and celebrating student diversity in the classroom
? learning about the representation of BIPOC in the Spanish-speaking world
? being anti-racist in their approach toward pedagogy and curriculum development
The responsibilities and duties of the Spanish Teacher include
? teaches 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Spanish
? develops curriculum to include a balance of grammar and vocabulary studies,
speaking practice, and cultural studies with connections to social justice and
identity
? advises students and communicates with families, including writing reports and
leading conferences
? accompanies students on at least one week-long trip to the school’s Catskills farm
? teaches a 6th-8th grade elective
? fulfills other various duties, including lunch and recess coverage
? collaborates with the 7th and 8th grade team on sustaining a dynamic program and
developing interdisciplinary collaborations, including the 7th and 8th grade activism
project
