The Baldwin School seeks applicants for a Middle School Learning Specialist and Instructional Coach in a full-time position. The individual in this position will provide learning support and enrichment for students in grades 6 - 8 as well as to build teacher capacity and their understanding of instructional best practices. The successful candidate will possess excellent content knowledge; expertise in intervention and enrichment strategies for mathematics and literacy; a passion for teaching and learning; creativity and a thirst for innovation; enthusiasm for working with students, families, and colleagues; a very high level of energy, creativity and flexibility; a growth mindset; and a sense of humor. They will be able to inspire and empower students and faculty to learn; collaborate and engage in daily conversations and experiences with students and colleagues; possess excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; and commit to ongoing professional development and lifelong learning. Successful candidates will have an understanding of and appreciation for girls' education.
Responsibilities
- Teach students in grades 6 - 8 to establish foundational math or literacy skills and extend learning in small groups, large groups, and/or 1:1 formats as appropriate.
- Support students in small groups and or 1:1 with executive functioning skills and active study methods
- Work with Middle School Faculty to ensure optimal learning experiences for students in their classes. This includes communicating with teachers to understand expectations for various assessments and daily work
- Assess student progress and adjust individual work with them appropriately
- Conduct informal assessments and screenings
- Maintain strong communication with colleagues, families, and administration through written notes, documentation, emails, calls, and in-person discussions.
- Collaborate with Learning Specialists and Counseling colleagues and Middle School to observe students in classrooms, provide guidance about outside resources, and advise in curriculum and instruction development.
- Collaborate with Learning Specialists and Counseling colleagues and Middle School to read and interpret the results of neuropsychological evaluations; synthesize information and provide a summary for faculty and administration; make recommendations about classroom modifications and testing accommodations.
- Work with faculty, parents, and private contractors on behalf of students who require specialized academic instruction.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Literacy, Curriculum and Instruction, Special Education, or another related field.
- 3-5 years teaching students with diverse needs.
- In-depth knowledge of mathematics, reading, and writing curricula; demonstrated experience in differentiation, enrichment, and intervention strategies; facility with a variety of common academic and behavioral assessments.
- Enthusiasm for embracing the independent school model of mentoring, advising and supporting students outside the classroom.
- Working knowledge of Macintosh operating systems.
- Experience with G-Suite/Google Apps for Education.
- Comfortable using online texts, iPads, SMART Boards, student information systems, and other computer systems.
