Shu Ren International School (Pre-K–5th grade) inspires a love of learning through an inquiry-based, Mandarin immersion program that prepares students to thrive in an evolving global society. Founded in Berkeley, California in 2008, Shu Ren recently opened a second campus in San Jose, California. Our accreditation by WASC and authorization by the International Baccalaureate (IB), demonstrates our commitment to a high-quality education for all of our learners. YOUR ROLE
Individualized Support:
- Identify students with social behavior or academic learning challenges through collaboration with teachers, parents, and school administrators.
- Develop personalized learning plans for each student to address their specific needs and goals
- Work closely with teachers to adapt and modify classroom materials and teaching strategies to accommodate the diverse learning needs of students
Classroom Support:
- Observe students in the classroom environment to identify areas of difficulty and provide assistance and guidance
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to implement effective behavioral management and academic learning strategies to support students who face challenges in these areas
- Provide in-classroom support to individuals or small groups to reinforce learning concepts and facilitate positive social interactions
Teacher Collaboration:
- Provide professional guidance to teachers, equipping them with effective strategies to accommodate students with learning challenges or difficulties.
- Consult with teachers regularly to assess progress and discuss appropriate modifications to the curriculum and instructional methods
Parent Communication and Meetings:
- Work with teachers to foster open and proactive communication with parents or guardians regarding their child's progress, challenges, and achievements.
- Work with teachers to conduct meetings with parents as needed to discuss individual student learning plans, interventions, and progress.
Resource Development:
- Compile and maintain a collection of resources, teaching materials, and intervention strategies to support students with diverse needs.
- Stay informed about current research and best practices in special education to enhance instructional strategies.
Collaboration with School Administration:
- Work closely with school administrators to develop and implement policies and practices that promote an inclusive and supportive learning environment
- Participate in team meetings and provide updates on student progress, challenges, and interventions.

- A bachelor's degree in special education or a related field
- Additional certifications or endorsements to specialize in specific areas of special education, such as autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, leaning disabilities, or emotional/behavioral disorders
