The Director of College Advising reports to the Head of Upper School, and is a member of the Upper School Leadership Team. The Director of College Advising serves as the liaison for students enrolled in dual credit college classes and performs other duties as assigned beyond those responsibilities stated below. The Director of College Advising is expected to support the School and its leadership in pursuit of the school mission, values, and core competencies. The primary responsibility of the College Advisor is to work with students and parents to plan and prepare for the process of gaining admission to college, working with them to identify colleges that are a potential fit. The College Advisor may be asked to teach a class, sponsor a club or other activities, and is expected to create or help create programming intended to help families understand the college application process and to help students effectively prepare for college.
Responsibilities
- Assists students with identifying prospective colleges
- Guides students and families through the college application process, including assisting with college essays and resumes, with SAT/ACT registration and test preparation, and with preparing students for interviews with college reps or alumni
- Ensures admission files are complete after a student has applied to college
- Ensures that initial, mid-year, and final transcripts are sent to colleges; writes recommendation letters for students applying to college; coordinates faculty responsibilities in the college admission process
- Updates and maintains the School Profile, the College Advising page on the Trinity website, and the electronic college advising database (currently Cialfo)
- Plans, coordinates, and hosts college visits to Trinity School
- Communicates with the Board of Trustees through the Associate Head of School; prepares annual college matriculation report
- Serves as SSD Coordinator for College Board Testing Accommodations and serves as testing supervisor for SAT, PSAT, and Advanced Placement Tests when applicable.
- Monitors measures of student college readiness and recommends how to improve readiness
- Stays abreast of changes and trends in the college admission landscape
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree strongly preferred
- 3-5 years of college advising preferred at the secondary level or similar experience as a college admissions professional
- Ability to work cooperatively with students, faculty, staff, administrators and parents in support of the mission of Trinity School
- Ability to be flexible and able to help in various areas when needed
