As The Pennington School embarks upon a $50M comprehensive campaign, the largest in the School's history, we are excited to add strategic positions to the advancement team in support of this exciting endeavor. The Assistant Director of Alumni Relations will join an advancement team of 15 and will be best positioned for tremendous growth and success.
The Assistant Director of Alumni Relations, reporting to the Director of Alumni Relations, is responsible for the design and execution of engagement strategies for Pennington alumni, with particular emphasis on graduates from 1998 to the present. The Assistant Director supports the Director of Alumni Relations in tracking and achieving the overarching goals for alumni engagement during the upcoming capital campaign. The person in this position manages relationships to build a dynamic alumni volunteer network and works collaboratively with fundraising colleagues to ensure that alumni relations and advancement goals are aligned.
Essential Responsibilities
- Design and execute engagement strategies for Pennington alumni (from 1998 onward)
- Gather news, update contact information, and collect class notes from young alumni
- Helping identify “rising stars,” young alumni on the move in their careers
- Assist with annual Scholarship Classic event and other Advancement Office events
- Collaborate with the Director of Alumni Relations to visit 3-5 college campuses per year, host receptions for college alumni, and grow alumni participation with an emphasis on college and young alumni engagement
- Develop on-campus programming for young alumni events including College Spend-the-Day, Alumni Day,, Homecoming and Reunion Weekend, and more
- Oversee planning for the 5-, 10-, 15-, and 20-year reunions and support the Director of Alumni Relations to drive attendance and ensure careful planning and execution of reunion programs
- Oversee social media plan and posts on alumni social media channels
- Work closely with the Assistant Director of the Pennington Fund for Alumni Giving to help identify and recruit class agents and build alumni giving participation
- Identify alumni prospects for mentoring relationships, networking, and career panels
- Oversee online volunteer and engagement opportunities
- Support the work and initiatives of the Alumni Association Board and Alumni Diversity Committee
- Engage current students and student ambassadors in alumni programming in partnership with the Assistant Director of the Pennington Fund
- Assist with entering event attendance in Raiser’s Edge event module and database, assist with queries and reports, and assist with attendance reports and mailings
- Maintain a portfolio of 40-50 prospects for volunteer and/or annual fund cultivation
- Other duties as required
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Strong relationship-building skills; outgoing, and enthusiastic about The Pennington School
- Pennington School alumni are strongly encouraged to apply
- Strong computer software skills and ability to learn (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Raiser’s Edge, and Veracross)
- Ability to travel and work nights and weekends
- Strong organizational skills and event-planning experience
- Volunteer management experience a plus
This position is a full-time, 12-month position. The candidate must be available for occasional weekend and evening work as needed for School events and projects outside of normal work hours.
