The Beginning School Assistant teacher is responsible for knowing and applying the breadth and depth of all professional standards and competencies for early childhood education which spans from birth through age 8.

The Beginning School Assistant teacher is responsible for knowing and applying the breadth and depth of all professional standards and competencies for early childhood education which spans from birth through age 8.
Responsibilities
- Abide by the Code of Ethical Conduct and all professional standards both in and out of the classroom.
- Assist the lead teacher and associate teacher, to facilitate child centered, play and project based learning experiences in the classroom.
- Assist the lead teacher to facilitate multi-dimensional, cross domain experiences that utilize a broad range of materials that are open ended and invite inquiry.
- Assist the lead teacher to facilitate learning that aligns with our mission, values, Inclusion Statement and Portrait of a Tarrier.
- Know and follow the Washington Administrative Code (WAC) as it applies to licensed childcare centers.
- Align teaching with each child as an individual, taking into account their identity, culture and background.
- Collaborate with the lead teacher to create a culturally appropriate, collaborative environment where all viewpoints are considered and all voices heard.
- Use the NAEYC Developmentally Appropriate Practice standards and Washington Early Learning Guidelines to guide classroom learning experiences.
- Assist the lead teacher to document children’s growth and learning, throughout the entire year, using the documentation processes of Reggio Emilia. Connect this learning documentation to child assessment.
- Develop and nurture relationships with families that acknowledge that they are the experts on their child and our responsibility is to partner with them in a way that works for the family.
- Show up as a professional creating partnerships, lines of communication with colleagues and families, a collaborative atmosphere with classroom partners as well as colleagues throughout the school.
- Utilize name to face attendance at every transition. Be able to accurately account for every child in the classroom.
- Readily engage in professional development that will keep your practice current and aligned with the goals of the school and the latest research.
- Attends all scheduled faculty and community meetings. Participate as a willing partner in all initiatives meant to further the mission of the school.
- Follow all school policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Associates degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development and Family Studies or similar. Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of Google Suite
- A minimum of one year of experience in an early childhood education classroom.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to constantly position self (standing, sitting, walking, lifting, and/or engaging in active play and supervision or otherwise) to accommodate needs of children of age group.
Must be able to communicate and exchange information with students, other teachers, and families with appropriately sensitive and accurate communication skills.
