The Harley School is seeking applications from qualified persons for a science teaching position
in the Middle School. This position is for a one-year leave replacement for 2023-24.
Qualifications and Competencies:
? A personable, caring individual committed to adolescent education
? A minimum of BA with a concentration in science or a related field
? A possession of or progression toward a MS or MA in science teaching or a related field
preferred
? Specific knowledge of and experience in inquiry-based/experiential teaching methods
? Proven ability to teach Life Science and Physical Science with a focus on Chemistry
? Successful experience designing and delivering lab-based lessons, emphasizing hands-on
and inquiry-based learning

Duties and Responsibilities:
? Contributing positively to a student-centered culture focused on learning and growth
? Teaching multiple sections of science across Grades 7 and 8 in a developmentally
appropriate manner
? Serving as an advisor in the Middle School Advisory program, working as an advocate
and liaison between school and home.
? Collaborating and communicating effectively with parents in formal and informal
conferences, written reports/emails, and newsletters
? Creating an inclusive classroom environment through regular class meetings,
supportive exchanges with students and clear expectations for community behavior
? Evaluating and communicating student progress and liaising with other professionals to
discuss individual student needs
? Collaborating with other middle school teachers, educators, specialists, and staff
members to develop curriculum, plan trips and special projects, and solve problems
? Performing other related duties as assigned by Head of School and Head of Middle
School
