Location, Campus, and Facilities
Located 15 miles west of San Juan, 30 minutes from Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport, and
one mile from Dorado Beach, TASIS Dorado offers a
spectacular setting for learning. Within its 19.1-acre campus, interconnected buildings surround lush courtyards ?lled with trees and ?owers. Lakes and gardens provide a peaceful environment that stimulates creativity.
The School is situated within the 850-acre residential community of Sabanera Dorado, from which it draws most of its student body. The
conservation-minded community of 700 single-family homes (and growing to over 1,000) features a diverse ecosystem of lakes and wetlands. It is home to 300 plant species, 12,000 new palm trees, and many bird species. Sabanera's Clubhouse offers a movie theater and a ?tness center. Recreation facilities include covered basketball/volleyball courts, tennis courts, a soccer ?eld, a swimming pool, playgrounds, a running track, and miles of paved and natural trails. A small yet convenient food store, Cafe de la Pergola, is located within the gated community and offers daily conveniences to residents. A larger food store, restaurant, and grab-and-go facility is set to open in 2024.
Next door is the newly constructed Doctor’s Center Orlando Health Hospital, a $107 million, 104-bed acute care hospital facility that opened in March 2022, initially created as Sabanera Health by the developer of Sabanera Dorado and Johns Hopkins Medicine International. The facility raises the standard of care on the Island and increases its potential to become the region's medical tourism center.
TASIS Dorado's modern and well-maintained campus includes 78 spacious classrooms equipped with age-appropriate furniture, air conditioning, plentiful supplies, and technologies, including Smart Boards, iPads, and Chromebooks; a full library with print and digital resources; four state-of-the-art science labs and a STEAM FabLab; a 528-seat Performing Arts Center; dedicated classrooms for art, music, and theater; and a recently renovated Dining Hall for daily breakfast and lunch.
New Campus Facilities
The 2023-24 academic year marks a monumental year as TASIS Dorado unveils two state-of-the-art facilities, its Wellness & Athletics Center (WAC) and Center for Innovation in Teaching & Learning (CITL), housed on the second ?oor of the TD HUB. Expected to open in Fall 2023, the much-anticipated WAC & CITL are the direct result of a focused vision and commitment of the Board of Directors, Senior
6
Leadership Team, and generous community supporters which led to two impressive capital campaigns. The Capital Campaign for the Wellness & Athletics Center raised $5.3 million of the $9.5 million project. Simultaneously, the Capital Campaign for the Center for Innovation in Teaching & Learning raised over $2 million for the project.
Wellness & Athletics Center
The Wellness & Athletics Center will ful?ll student-athletes needs while also serving the broader school community. The WAC will sport newly equipped spaces such as an indoor gymnasium featuring basketball, volleyball, and indoor soccer courts, a rock climbing wall, a ?tness center, a
wellness resource lounge, and a culinary classroom for students to exercise, relax, and engage in physical and wellness activities. External improvements include new arti?cial turf for soccer,
track & ?eld facilities, beach volleyball and tennis courts, and two playgrounds.
The WAC will build upon TASIS Dorado's current programs, including pre-season workouts, year-round training, strength and conditioning, expanded coaching staff, and additional clubs, extracurricular activities, and programs across all school levels. The Wellness Program will undergo an expanded curriculum focused on emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual balance.
TD HUB: Dining Hall and Center for Innovation in Teaching & Learning
A new two-story TD HUB student center is home to a newly renovated and expanded Dining Hall and Center for Innovation in Teaching & Learning.
The re?ned Dining Hall opened in Spring 2023, offering a culinary experience with a communal ambiance ?lled with abundant natural light, comfortable table seating, and a ?exible furniture layout encouraging students to gather, eat, and recharge.
The second ?oor of the HUB, set to open in Fall
2023, houses the newly established Center for Innovation in Teaching & Learning (CITL). This collaborative environment will be a place for the TASIS Dorado community to learn together, exchange ideas, and problem-solve creatively. The space offers eLearning classrooms, virtual teaching pods, a broadcasting studio, a digital media lab, study zones, group spaces, lounge areas, and a revitalized library.
Combining the expertise of faculty and administrators with professional development workshops and student support services, the CITL will enrich teaching and learning by encouraging interdisciplinary discussions and inspiring, forward-thinking educational practices serving as a portal to share TASIS Dorado with the world and draw on resources outside our community.

Future Campus Plans
In January 2021, the Board of Directors approved Master Vision 2030 TASIS Dorado, a facilities
development plan that envisions several major projects over the next decade, including a STEM building and a two-story townhouse village on nearby campus grounds for a Mentor Teacher Exchange Program.
Highlights of the Educational Program
Through its rigorous academics, robust creative arts and athletic programs, and superb teachers, TASIS Dorado aspires to form engaged citizens and innovative thinkers
- transforming students' lives by promoting a love of learning, beauty, truth, goodness, and wisdom.
The curriculum at all levels has both traditional and innovative elements and is supplemented by various social and cultural activities. Emphasis is on learning skills, understanding, applying concepts, and demonstrating knowledge through writing, presentations, and other interactions. The average
student-teacher ratio of 9:1 ensures close attention to each student.
English is the primary language of instruction, with Spanish language and literacy offered daily at all grade levels. Spanish as a Second Language is provided for all new learners, and French or Italian is available beginning in grade 8. All students graduate with pro?ciency in English, Spanish, and either French, Italian, or a computer programming language.
A cutting-edge expansion of science and technology offerings was a key element of TASIS Dorado's most recent strategic plan. In 2016 the School opened its MIT-certi?ed STEAM FabLab, equipped with a CNC machine, laser cutter, 3D printers, and scanners. It also partnered with engineering students from the Universidad Politécnica to develop students' knowledge of electrical and computer engineering. In 2019, the school launched an Innovation Sciences Department to make students pro?cient in Information and Communication Technology and Design & Applied Technology.
Throughout grades 2-12, students bene?t from hands-on creating, building, and learning activities in the FabLab. Upper School students engage in an Engineering Research & Design class, focused on real-world projects to solve problems, and positively impact the world. Coding is offered beginning in Middle School, culminating in advanced computer science classes in high school.
TASIS Dorado is embarking upon a new Strategic Vision starting in the 2023-24 academic year with four essential areas of focus:
- Fostering innovative learning in our changing world
- Cultivating curiosity and exploration beyond the classroom
- Nurturing a caring culture of engagement and solidarity
- Growing a sustainable future by investing in people and places

TASIS Dorado’s educational program is offered across three divisions: Elementary School, Middle School, and High School.
Elementary School (grades PPK to 5)
TASIS Dorado promotes a holistic, student-centered educational experience with excellent teaching, social-emotional learning experiences, and an engaging, content-rich curriculum starting with our full-day program in PPK through Grade 5.
The elementary curriculum offers both traditional and innovative elements and is supplemented by a variety of social and cultural activities. Key areas of academic instruction include E.D. Hirsch's Core
Knowledge Curriculum, Language Arts and Writers Workshop, Next Generation Science and Social Studies topics, Singapore Math approach, Spanish and Spanish as a Second Language, Physical Education, Visual and Performing Arts, and Responsive Classroom, our social-emotional learning program.
Grades PPK-Kindergarten
Our full-day program incorporates a theme-based curriculum, integrating foundational literacy and math concepts and skills within small and whole-group lessons. Students apply these concepts within hands-on centers or while working within differential groups guided by the teacher. The educational activities inspire children’s imagination and creativity while they explore and discover new topics and solidify fundamental concepts.
While working individually or in small groups, students also learn to interact appropriately socially, develop friendships, and follow established routines.
Building on young children’s ability to acquire language, our PPK & PK classes are highlighted by a dual language program before moving toward English as the primary language of instruction in most academic classes beginning in Kindergarten. Within this program design, students are immersed exclusively in English or Spanish daily to build towards mastery of both languages.
Grades 1-5
The goal in grades 1-5 is to provide a strong educational foundation while fostering a love of learning. E.D. Hirsch’s Core Knowledge Curriculum guides our Next Generation Science and Social Studies topics supplemented by units of study focused on Puerto Rico’s history and culture.
9
For English & Spanish Language Arts, teachers use research-driven resources to promote students' growth as readers and writers in both languages. Like all TASIS Schools, TASIS Dorado uses the Singapore Math approach, which helps students learn the language of math in a way that is hands-on as they explore concepts concretely, pictorially, and abstractly.
TASIS Dorado integrates character-building and social-emotional learning through dedicated programs, including community service
initiatives and the Responsive Classroom approach.
Carefully crafted performances with active student participation provide opportunities for students to demonstrate their talents and knowledge, gain stage presence and public speaking skills, and develop memorization and acting skills. A robust after-school program offers students further opportunities for growth, learning, and fun.
Thematic events are built into the curriculum, offering students unique experiences throughout the year. Such opportunities include Week of the Young Child, Communities of the World, Field Day, Lemonade Stand, Young Authors, and more.
Middle School (grades 6--8)
The Middle School program is designed to foster the academic, aesthetic, physical, and social growth of students within a structured and caring framework. The major goals of the academic program are to teach students to question, to encourage divergent opinions by considering alternatives to stereotyped patterns of thinking, and to encourage students to pursue independent research of thought-provoking issues, culminating in individual rational judgments.
Students enroll in the core courses of English, Spanish (or Spanish as a Second Language), Math, Social Studies, and Science. They also take Physical Education and a variety of electives, including Art, Music, Theater, and World Languages. Advanced Math courses are available to quali?ed students who will likely pursue Advanced Placement classes in Upper School. Students also participate in
social-emotional learning through the Social Institute program.
Throughout the school year, special events include
Exploration Days, Spirit Week, and Field Day, plus a week at Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama, and Close Ups Washington D.C. and New York City.
1
Upper School (grades 9-12)
The Upper School's rigorous academic program meets or exceeds the requirements of colleges and universities in the United States and Puerto Rico. All core subject courses also meet Puerto Rico's "Nivel Avanzado" criteria. Promising students who meet certain criteria may enroll in courses designated “honor,” "plus," or "enriched;" as well as 31 AP courses.
A minimum of 25 credits is required for graduation, including English (4 credits), Spanish (4 credits), Mathematics (4 credits), Sciences (3 credits in lab sciences), Social Studies (4 credits),
World Language (2 credits or pro?ciency), Electives (2 credits), and Physical Education (2
credits). Students may take additional credits and must complete Exploration Week and 100 hours of community service over the course of four years of Upper School. A required program for all Upper School students, Exploration Week, combines a four-day academic mini-course with an emphasis on experiential learning or apprenticeship with an expert practitioner as well as a day-long service learning opportunity designed to provide students with insights into career paths and new areas of interest. Previous topics have included Chef Dorado, Biotechnology and CSI Dorado, Physics of Sur?ng, Urban Art,
Video Production, Entrepreneurship: Cupcake Wars and Veterinary Medicine. Throughout the school year, special thematic events include TASIS CREATES, PBL Fair, Innovative Science Week, Interact Week, French & Italian Activities, Spirit Week, and Field Day.

Leadership Academy
The TASIS Dorado Leadership Academy, a Stubbe family legacy, is a program designed to re?ne the leadership qualities of selected students in their sophomore and junior years.
During the program's ?rst phase, sophomore members identify strengths, recognize essential goals, and apply design thinking while establishing a foundation of leadership skills and self-awareness. In the summer between sophomore and junior years, students travel abroad to explore a global issue while leveraging their acquired skills at the Global Leadership Summit in Berlin, Germany. Throughout the junior year, students receive career learning opportunities and focus on a capstone project using design-thinking to tackle real-world problems.
During the 2022-23 school year, the Leadership Academy welcomed its second cohort for phase one of the program. For their capstone projects, members of the junior class cohort designed educational programs and identi?ed solutions for poorly equipped schools, produced infomercials focused on the importance of recycling, and created a certi?cation program for restaurants that commit to environmental sustainability by reducing the use of plastics.
The Arts
The Arts are a vital part of each student's day as they learn to create and appreciate beauty. Starting in pre-school, students study art, music, or theater every trimester, and students in Grade 5 combine all three in a
year-long, student-centered musical performance called TAP5.
Middle School students take specialized Art, Music, and Drama classes such as Band,
the History of Puerto Rican Theater, or Ceramics, while Upper School students have a wide range of elective
12
choices, including Studio Art, Stage Band, Vocals, Drama in Literature, Batucada, Rock Band, A
Cappella, All-School Musical, and Musical Theater. Students from many disciplines come together to produce annual musicals and assemblies. Plays and other performances are a regular element of many core classes.
Athletics
TASIS Dorado’s Athletic Department stresses individual character development, emphasizing respect, responsibility, integrity, leadership, teamwork, and sportsmanship. TASIS Dorado coaches offer an athletic experience where student-athletes are respected for their individuality, valued for their unique talents, and challenged to improve their abilities. Student-athletes are taught to strive for excellence, on and off the ?eld both as individuals and as teammates.
TASIS Dorado has a highly competitive and comprehensive athletic program with over 65% of the student body actively participating across 54 athletic teams. Grounded in mens sana in corpore sano (a healthy mind in a healthy body), the sports program believes that participating in athletics provides students with opportunities for character development, ?tness, sportsmanship, and enjoyment.
Mini, Youth, JV, and Varsity teams compete in the Liga Atletica Mini Escuelas Privadas (LAMEPI) in grades 4-6 and the Puerto Rico High School Athletic Alliance (PRHSAA) for secondary students. Super-Mini teams compete in inter-school tournaments.
Athletic opportunities include basketball, beach volleyball, cross-country, ?ag football, golf, judo, soccer, tennis, swimming, track & ?eld, and volleyball.
