North Country School (NCS) and Camp Treetops seek a full time Chief Financial Officer to begin on or before January 1, 2024. NCS is a junior boarding and day school for nearly 90 students in grades 4-9. Camp Treetops is an overnight summer camp for over 180 children ages 8-14 years. Founded by progressive educators in 1938 and 1921, respectively, NCS and Camp Treetops now operate under the same organizational umbrella, financial structure, and physical campus in picturesque Lake Placid, New York. This 220 acre campus has many permanent and seasonal buildings and includes as features, a small lake and a rope tow ski hill. Total annual revenues are approximately $7.7mm with an endowment of $14.6mm. There currently are 70 full-time year round employees and adds another 90 summer employees who help to operate the camp.
The CFO provides leadership, oversight, and stewardship for all aspects of the institution’s financial operations. The CFO is a member of the Administrative Team, reports directly to the Executive Director, works closely with the Board of Trustees and board committees, and supports the long-term strategic and financial planning for the institution. The CFO ensures institutional integrity on fiscal matters by promoting best practices in finance which includes budgeting, forecasting, managing investments and assets, annual audits, and reporting quarterly to the Board of Trustees. The CFO responsibilities also include managing the institution’s human resources, overseeing facilities and information technology, and guiding the institution’s general operations. In addition to financial expertise, the successful candidate must possess exceptional interpersonal skills to facilitate effective partnership with faculty, staff, and families, along with a spirit of collaboration with all constituencies. Ideal candidates will possess at least ten years of experience in a position of financial leadership, preferably in an educational and/or non-profit setting. Proven experience directing capital projects, applying complex financial instruments, and developing financial strategies that support strategic priorities are essential.
