The Langley School, a PS-8 independent school in McLean, Virginia, seeks a guest temporary nurse to be on call for nurse coverage needs as they become available. We currently have one full-time school nurse who serves all of our students. This position would be as needed (generally one day up to one week) when our school nurse is unavailable and would be paid daily. 

Essential functions, duties, and responsibilities:

1. Consistently acts in accordance with the nursing guidelines and practices of Virginia and supports the school’s mission and values
2. Responsible for assessing the health status of children in the identification and prevention of illnesses, providing general healthcare
3. Ensures the safety and well-being of students
4. Provides direct health care to students and, in the case of emergencies, to employees
5. Oversees the administration of medication to students
6. Administers Emergency Medications such as Epinephrine or Inhalers, if needed
7. Maintains accurate and complete records of students and incidents as required
8. Communicates necessary information to colleagues and families regarding student health needs
9. Identifies diabetes symptoms in students with Type 1 diabetes and provide for the child's health needs at school, such as checking blood sugars and providing insulin injections if needed, as well as taking necessary steps if the blood sugars are high or low
10. Works a daily schedule that begins no later than 7:45am and ends at 3:45pm

May be asked to perform operational school duties.

Qualifications/requirements:

• Registered Nurse (RN) with a current license in the state of Virginia (or compact state reciprocity) required
• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• First Aid, CPR, and AED certified
• Clinical experience required, pediatric and school experience preferred
