Description
Baker Demonstration School, an independent progressive PK-8 school on Chicago’s North Shore, is seeking an innovative Interim Principal with strong experience in progressive school settings to guide, lead and support a vibrant learning culture. The Interim Principal will oversee all aspects of the PK-8 learning experience and strengthen the culture and climate of the school and the community. We value candidates who have a love of people - students, teachers, and parents; are innovative and knowledgeable about experiential learning; approach children from a developmental lens; and are collaborative, strengths-based leaders. We seek candidates with a demonstrated commitment to developing one's own cultural competency, equity, inclusion, and belonging. This position runs through June 30th, 2024.

Founded in 1918, Baker Demonstration School is an independent day school committed to providing an exemplary Preschool, Elementary and Middle School progressive education to our 200 students. Our students come from Chicago, Evanston, Wilmette and other North Shore communities. - Experienced leader in centering equity, inclusivity and cultural competency and supporting initiatives that align with the school’s mission and guiding principles
- Innovative, visionary educator, skilled at designing and facilitating learning experiences and school-wide initiatives that engage students and staff
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills and deep knowledge of current & innovative curricular and programmatic trends
- Collaborative decision-maker who can thoughtfully facilitate and navigate different points of view, promote understanding, and mediate conflicting ideas
- Advanced degree in a related field required
- Proven commitment to engaging in community & curricular conversations about equity and inclusivity
- Passion and skill to contribute positively to the school community and to develop strong relationships with students, teachers, colleagues and families
- Experience using data in a progressive school setting to inform decision-making
Responsibilities
- Handles all day-to-day operations of the school making sure decisions are made in a thoughtful, respectful, and timely fashion that align with the school’s mission
- Create and nurture a culture of support, respect, and collaboration among administration, faculty, students, and parents
- Oversees and supports Dean of Academics and Dean of Student Engagement and closely collaborates with both to ensure that they are effectively managing the schools faculty, student and school needs
- Support and oversee before/after school (BASE) program and summer camp directors
- Serve as a critical thought partner to the Head of School and participate as a collaborative and engaged member of the Leadership Team
- Nurture community relations by connecting students, parents, faculty and staff in meaningful ways
- Promotes parental and community involvement in school activities
- Demonstrates commitment to student achievement, school improvement, and professional development
- Envisions and implements a learning environment that encourages students to be life-long learners
- The position assists the Leadership Team in hiring, supervising, and evaluating all faculty
