Job Summary: We are seeking a part-time passionate piano instructor for our after-school music program. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching students of all ages and skill levels, specifically, beginner to early intermediate level, grades 1-5. Friends School Private Music is a supportive enrichment program tailored to the interests and aptitudes of each student. There are five (5) recital opportunities available throughout the year. Private lessons typically run on the half-hour from 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm Monday through Friday.
Responsibilities:
- Teach students of all ages and skill levels how to play the piano
- Create lesson plans that are tailored to each student's individual needs and goals
- Must be willing to make learning a new instrument fun and exciting for students in a diverse school environment that encourages academic excellence and multiple extracurricular interests.
- Provide feedback and guidance to help students improve their technique and musicality
- Encourage and motivate students to practice and develop their skills
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to provide progress updates and discuss any concerns
Requirements:
- Prior teaching experience is strongly preferred
- Possess both solid keyboard skills and fluency with printed music fundamentals.
- Strong knowledge of music theory and piano technique
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Patient, encouraging, and able to motivate students
- Flexibility to work late afternoons. Teaching hours are contingent on student enrollment, with a minimum of eight (8) half-hour students (2 entire afternoons).
Education: Bachelor's degree or pursuing a degree in Music Education or related field preferred. An undergraduate keyboard degree is strongly preferred.
Salary: Competitive private teaching hourly wage paid to all private music staff
