JOB TITLE: Head of University & Career Advising

REPORTS TO: High School Principal and Head of School 

SALARY SCALE: Faculty + Stipend

JOB GOAL/PURPOSE:

The Head of University & Career Advising leads the International School of Beijing (ISB) post-graduation planning and counseling and assumes overall responsibility for all aspects of university admissions and career explorations for students in grades 11 and 12. Leading a team of counselors who begin their advising relationships with students in grade 10 during semester two. The Head University & Career Advising in conjunction with the High School Principal and Head of School sets policy and practices to lead students and their families through the search and application process, creates positive relationships with ISB families, and helps each student find the best possible university match or post-ISB option. The Head of University & Career Advising remains current with trends in university admissions and cultivate relationships with post-ISB destinations around the world. The Head of University & Career Advising, on an annual basis, prepares a report of the Head of School and the Board of Trustees on the results of university admissions and post-ISB placement.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Carries out, represents, and promotes ISB’s mission and vision
• Supervises and evaluates the University & Career Counselors and the office administrative assistant, and the University Coordinator & Careers Assistant
• Presents to the Head of School and Board of Trustees on annual basis regarding the destinations and long-term success of ISB graduates
• Oversees the family engagement strategy, plans an annual calendar to support students grades 10-12, and continually improves our collaboration with families.
• Oversees the college information session calendar, speakers, and ongoing relationships with university representatives.
• Educates and builds capacity within the ISB community to support post-ISB destinations in countries
• Develop strong relationships with organizations and individuals who support post-ISB destinations
• Advise a cohort of students through the University Admissions process

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Master’s Degree and valid certification (or the substantial equivalent) in School Counseling or another relevant field
• Minimum five years’ experience serving as a University and Career Advisor; prefer international school experience, especially university placements in North America, Korea and Europe.
• Comprehensive knowledge and experience of the higher education admissions requirements for the national systems to which ISB students apply
• Demonstrated ability to build effective teams to work toward the common goals of equity, access, academic, and social success for every student
• Possess working knowledge of PowerSchool, Maia Learning, Managebac or similar software systems
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to respond effectively to the needs of a culturally and linguistically student and family population
