The Caedmon School, a progressive Montessori school for young children, seeks creative, fun candidates for a PreK through 5th grade Visual Art Co-Teacher position. This is an exciting opportunity with another new teacher to build a dynamic visual arts program (and to include STEAM). We seek candidates who understand the role of a teacher as a facilitator of student curiosity and wonder, and who appreciate the educational philosophy of Maria Montessori and the importance of a carefully prepared learning environment.
Classroom teaching - The ideal candidate possesses an understanding of the cognitive, artistic, social, and emotional development of preschool and elementary-aged children. He, she, or they cooperates and collaborates well with a co-teacher, must be versed or have interest in educational approaches, including Montessori, that position the student as the driver of their own learning and in curricula based on student inquiry.
Professional growth - The ideal candidate is also a perpetual learner themself and models this explicitly for the students. He, she, or they is excited to try new approaches to curriculum, pedagogy, and strategies for meeting student needs; takes a receptive stance to feedback from colleagues; engages in thoughtful risk-taking in their teaching; and actively digs into workshops and discussions at faculty meetings and professional development events. He, she, or they habitually reflects on the learning and needs of each child, as well as their own teaching.
Community - The ideal candidate brings a keen enthusiasm to work; participates wholeheartedly in the life of the faculty; and conducts themsel professionally and warmly. He, she, or they communicates often and clearly with colleagues about curriculum and student progress; freely shares resources and teaching strategies; infuses planning sessions with fresh, innovative ideas; and practices strong perspective-taking skills whenever they collaborate with colleagues and families.
He, she, or they will have opportunities to work with families and dialogue with them about the growth of their child and about the curriculum as it unfolds. Additionally, this individual will participate in family conferences and write progress reports.

Responsibilities:
- Teach exciting, hands-on visual art and STEAM lessons for Pre-K through Grade Five students
- Plan and work collegially with a co-teacher, classroom teachers and other Specialist teachers
- Conduct family conferences and write narrative reports
- Participate enthusiastically in all faculty meetings and weekly grade-level Guidance meetings
Qualifications:
- A distinct fondnessand respect for young children
- A passion for and a knowledge of a variety of art techniques
- Demonstrate flexibility, innovation, and thoughtfulness in relating to students and families, as well as in lesson planning and working with colleagues.
- Bachelor's degree (preferably in Fine Arts)
- Master's degree highly preferred
- 3-5 years teaching experience preferred
- A knowledge of, and respect for, Montessori philosophy is highly valued
- Excellent written and verbal skills
