Compass High School is seeking an English Teacher to join our faculty for the 2023-2024 school year. Compass is a nonprofit private school specializing in the education of students with learning differences. Our school is truly a unique and rewarding place for teachers to work with complex students. The mission of Compass High School is to provide a supportive, individualized program to help students develop their full academic potential. We focus on learning strategies, social competence, and self-advocacy to give students the knowledge and self-confidence they need to succeed. Compass is a small school with a high level of cohesion and collaboration among its faculty. This position will start immediately.
Position Overview:
The successful candidate will be able to teach high school English at all four grade levels (9-12) (e.g. Language Arts and Writing, American Literature, World Literature, etc.) and to differentiate instruction for a range of learners. We are looking for a teacher who is creative and flexible, who uses multi-sensory teaching techniques, and who designs structured lessons. Experience teaching students with learning differences is desired. Full-time or part-time position available.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Teach 9th - 12th grade English.
- Teach English Honors.
- Differentiate instruction as needed.
- Develop, implement, assess and revise lesson plans.
- Provide a wide range of teaching strategies as an element of implementing individualized instruction.
- Participate in regular staff meetings, as required.
- Work closely with the Director of Teaching and Learning
Qualifications:
- Finds resonance with Compass High School’s mission and philosophy.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- California Special Education Teaching Credential or progress towards one is preferred, as well as subject matter competency in English.
- Experience working with students with learning differences and complex profiles.
- Comfortable collaborating with fellow teachers and administrators.
- Excellent communication skills: clear, articulate, professional in speaking and writing.
- Is an enthusiastic self-starter with a can-do attitude.
