Job Summary:

St. Johns Country Day School, an independent college preparatory school, is seeking a Teacher Assistant. The Teacher Assistant works under a Lead Teacher’s supervision to give students additional attention and instruction. The Teacher Assistant will attend scheduled pre-planning and division meetings. Ability to work 10 months out of the year. Work hours when school is in session will be scheduled between the hours of 7:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. Teachers must assist with any opening or closing of school activities.

Main Job Requirements:

• Manages the learning experiences for students to ensure the needs of the group and individual students are met.
• Helps Lead Teachers prepare for lessons by organizing materials or setting up equipment.
• Reinforce lessons presented by Lead Teachers by reviewing material with students one-on-one or in small groups.
• Assists Lead Teacher with maintaining accurate record-keeping and student assessment, including, but not limited to, daily observations, progress updates, year and annual progress reports/portfolios, attendance rolls, accident and behavior reports.

• Reinforce school and class rules to help teach students proper behavior.
• Effectively supervise students in a variety of school settings.

• Develops positive relationships with students and faculty members.
• Participates in all parent-oriented activities including the admissions process, orientation, and conferences.
• Participates in professional development activities designated by the Head of Lower School
• Maintains a neat, clean, well-organized, and attractive prepared environment.
• Physical ability to work around small children including sitting, standing, walking, running, and climbing stairs.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
• Carry out the daily responsibilities of the classroom relating to the care of the children.
• Complete all reasonable requests made by either the Lead Teacher or the Head of the Lower School.
• Occasionally, Teacher Assistants will plan collaboratively with the Lead Teacher to create appropriate learning experiences for students.
• The Teacher Assistant may address a parent to discuss their child when directed or with the approval of the Lead Teacher.

Qualifications:

• BA/BS preferred
• Early Childhood or CDA certification
• A minimum of two years of related experience
