As a physical education teacher, you will prepare and teach lessons on all aspects of health (social, emotional, physical), as well as nutrition and fitness. You will work with students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 4. When working with younger children, one of your primary responsibilities is to encourage a healthy and active lifestyle by leading fun, activity-based exercises that keep your students engaged. When working with upper elementary students, your job duties include teaching lessons on health science and physical fitness. There are opportunities to coach school sports outside the academic day.
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
- Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
- Collaborate in the development of a vertically aligned PE curriculum.
- Organize games and challenges that promote physical activity.
- Promote motor skills and physical development
- Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
- Possess strong speaking and listening skills. In addition to being knowledgeable about an activity, must also be able to communicate and demonstrate it properly.
- Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with students and instructional colleagues.
- Communicate effectively with families.
- Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence.

Basic requirements include but are not limited to:
- Bachelor’s or higher in Physical Education/Health, with a current teaching certificate
- A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience
- A desire to seek out professional development activities related to the latest instructional strategies and student achievement
- Ability to work well with students and colleagues; willingness to be an active, enthusiastic member of the Sacred Heart community
- Willingness to adapt to an existing curriculum as well as contribute ideas to enhance the respective academic programs
