ABOUT THE POSITION
We are seeking an experienced Human Resources director with outstanding people skills to manage our personnel and ensure that our human resources programs and initiatives are effective, efficient, and aligned to overall business objectives. Duties for the HR director will include supervising HR personnel, designing and implementing policies and programs for employees, and collaborating effectively with school leaders and employees to ensure smooth and efficient delivery of HR services. The portfolio of responsibilities include: employment facilitation and engagement, oversight of compensation and benefits programs, compliance, and policy development and administration.
The ideal candidate for this role should possess a high work ethic, excellent communication skills, knowledge of labor regulations and HR practices, strategic thinking abilities, strong organizational skills, and excellent interpersonal skills. The exceptional HR director should improve HR processes, implement strategies that support school growth, improve morale and employee retention, enhance safety and wellness, strengthen relations between staff and employers, manage job satisfaction, attract the best recruits, and promote the organization's values.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement human resources policies, in support of strategic objectives.
- Hire staff, negotiate employment agreements, manage performance reviews.
- Identify staff needs and create job descriptions.
- Oversee the administration of the school’s compensation and benefits plans, including leave and accommodations, wellness program, and retirement program.
- Remain current on employment law and work with the school’s legal counsel to ensure compliance with applicable laws.
- Ensure clearances are properly processed and maintained for all employees.
- Develop and communicate policies and procedures through an Employment & Faculty Handbook, revising and updating as needed.
- Oversee employee records management. Administer records and policies in compliance with state, federal and school guidelines.
- Investigate employee-related complaints, make recommendations for resolution to appropriate administrators.
- Maintain oversight of driver files and ensure compliance with DMV regulations.
- As appropriate, direct, oversee, or attend employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
- Coordinate with Administrators as needed on employer-employee relations including performance improvement plans and documentation of warnings and concerns.
- Design and direct employee training programs.
HR Director Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management or equivalent combination of training and experience
- Knowledge of labor laws and regulations.
- Enjoy collaborating with colleagues.
- Possess excellent interpersonal, communication (writing, listening, speaking), and organizational skills, and exhibit the ability to interact and work effectively with all employees.
- Possess a high degree of cultural competency and demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and perspectives.
- Budget management experience.
- Detail-oriented.
- Computer literacy.
The Director of Human Resources reports directly to the Associate Head for Finance and Operations. They are an accomplished professional in every facet of school life and have a special passion for and demonstrated success in experiences that deliver the important messages and lessons derived from engagement with the employees at Tabor Academy. They must be personable, versatile, empathic, and a proven team player. The Director of Human Resources must have a deep understanding of and support for Tabor Academy’s commitments to Diversity, Equity, and Belonging. Additionally, they must be comfortable and direct in dealing with colleagues and outside professionals in matters that are occasionally difficult.
