The Speyer Legacy School seeks an Assistant Parliamentary Debate Coach to work with our Middle School Debate Team after school. The Assistant Coach will collaborate closely with the Head Debate Coach to assist in the development and implementation of the parliamentary debate program for Middle School students, supervise students during Debate Team practice after school, and attend periodic Debate Tournaments on weekends (approximately three each semester). The ideal candidate will have a background in Debate or Public Speaking and a passion for working with middle school-aged students.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Head Debate Coach in planning, organizing, and implementing a comprehensive parliamentary debate program.
- Conduct practice sessions and provide constructive feedback to students on their debate skills, including argument construction, evidence use, refutation, points of information, and public speaking skills.
- Help prepare students for debates, including guiding research and case writing, and practicing speeches.
- Attend and assist during debate tournaments (primarily Saturdays), including judging when needed.
- Provide support in administrative tasks such as scheduling practices, coordinating with debate tournament organizers, and maintaining records of students' progress.
- Foster an inclusive and supportive environment that encourages student participation and growth.
Qualifications:
- Prior experience in parliamentary debate as a participant or coach, or equivalent experience in a related field such as public speaking, is preferred.
- Experience working with middle school-aged students.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to provide constructive feedback to students and motivate them to improve their skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage administrative tasks.
- Availability to work after school hours and attend weekend tournaments.
Education:
- Training or experience in Parliamentary Debate or Public Speaking.
- Higher education or a Bachelor's degree in English, Communication, Education, or a related field is preferred.

Salary Range / Possible structures:
- $1,000-3,000 stipend per Trimester depending on experience and time commitment
- $25/hour rate available depending on experience and time commitment
