POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT:
K-12 DANCE TEACHER AND CHOREOGRAPHER (Part Time)
Saint Ann’s school seeks a dance and choreography teacher for a part-time position in our Theater Department beginning immediately. Bring your experience (teaching dance to children of any age, choreographing concert dance and/or theater productions) to our talented, curious and energetic students in grades K-12. Our new dance teacher will be capable of teaching up to three sections of Lower School Dance ( Creative Dance/ Beginning Modern Dance for 1st - 3rd Grade) and up to three sections of Middle School and/or High School dance ( Modern Dance and Choreography) and collaboratively developing, rehearsing, producing and mounting the Middle School and High School Dance Concerts in March and April of 2024.
Additional duties include writing checklists and twice-yearly anecdotal reports and participating in weekly department and school-wide initiatives, meetings and community events. Applicants will be able to help students to create their own choreographic vision no matter what level of skill and technique the dancers bring into the classroom. Applicants should be well organized even as they have a high tolerance for chaos and must bring an equity lens to their interactions with colleagues and students. This position can also include assisting in various capacities on classroom and divisional projects and productions. These responsibilities will be assigned based on the applicant’s skills and experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teaching 1-2 sections of Lower School Dance for Grades 1-3. These classes are Creative Dance classes with Beginning Modern Dance techniques taught as well. Each section is one hour and meets once a week.
- Teaching 3-4 sections of Middle School (Grades 4-8 ) and/or High School Modern Dance/ Choreography. These sections range from 45 minutes to 90 minute classes and meet once a week.
- Choreographing class concert pieces and mentoring students in the creation of their own choreography for the Middle School and High School Dance Concerts in the Spring.
- Writing anecdotal reports twice yearly in addition to twice yearly checklists.
- Sharing production coordination duties with other dance teachers and dance coordinator for Dance Concerts.
- Organizing and arranging production meetings with collaborators as needed.
- Participating in all weekend and evening rehearsals and performances of dance concerts as well as strike after the concerts, in the role of teacher and co-producer. Specifically five Sunday rehearsals for the High School Dance Concert which includes the dress rehearsal.
- Maintaining communication with Division Heads and deans about classes and students. Timely communication about any student support needs and necessary follow up.
- Maintaining a healthy, safe and joy-filled environment in which our students can further develop their skills as performance-making artists while also understanding and partaking in the efforts and importance of ensemble at the center of theater making.
PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
A love of working with children and ability to embrace their imaginative impulses and unique stories through dance.
- Experience teaching Creative Dance and/or Modern Dance to children. Experience teaching other dance forms is a plus.
- Experience with teaching choreography and developing choreography with Middle School and High School students.
- Experience with production coordination and an understanding of how to produce a dance concert.
- Knowledge of how the applicant’s own identity impacts their choices in the creative theater making process.
- Strong planning and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.

COMPENSATION
This is a part time exempt faculty position with a competitive compensation package including benefits. Salary range of $30,000–$50,000, commensurate with education and experience.
