The Position
Reporting to the Director of Student Services, the School Counselor for the Upper School would design and deliver school counseling supports that improve student outcomes. The ideal candidate would be warm and friendly, student-focused and eager to build culture on campus. They are an integral team member who serve as the liaison for students, parents, teachers, administrators, and outside clinicians, partnering specifically with the Director of Student Support Services and Academic Coaches. The work of the school counselor aligns with the school’s mission to support all students’ academic and social emotional achievement.
Qualifications:
- Hold, at minimum, a master’s degree in counseling or school social work
- Meet the state certification/licensure requirements
- Fulfill continuing education requirements
- Uphold ASCA or other relevant professional standards
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Dean of Students and Division Director to create grade level and schoolwide curricular and programmatic approaches to student wellness, inclusive of advisory scope and sequence, new student support, and other student life initiatives like student clubs
- Monitor student achievement and needs to provide developmentally appropriate and data-driven instruction directly to students, inclusive of classroom lessons/advisory sessions
- Provide short-term individual and small group services for issues that impact school performance, especially during times of transition, heightened stress, critical change, or other situations impeding student success, inclusive of new student orientation
- Provide referrals and resources for long-term support and serve as the liaison between the school and these external providers
- Identify needs and provide learning opportunities for faculty members and families
- Analyze data to identify and monitor student needs and determine the effectiveness and inform improvements to the counseling program
- Provide advocacy and input at student-focused meetings
- Collaborate with teachers and administration to support student wellbeing as it pertains to student conduct and disciplinary actions
- Duties as assigned by Director of Student Services
