Position Summary
Gill St. Bernard’s School is searching for an experienced full time Upper School French teacher as a long-term leave replacement for the period from mid-November 2023 to mid-January 2024. The ideal candidate will have demonstrable skill in teaching all levels of high school French including Advanced Placement. The successful candidate will be committed to student-centered pedagogy and eager to collaborate with colleagues. The successful candidate also will be patient, encouraging, and flexible with students, and will model GSB’s core values of compassion, excellence, integrity, respect, and courage. The World Language Department specifically seeks candidates who are native or near-native French speakers, and who have experience mentoring adolescents and teaching at the AP/IB/GCSE level.
Responsibilities
- Teach five (5) sections of French (French 2, French 3/3H, French 4/4H, AP French Language, and one independent study). Classes meet five out of every seven days on a rotating schedule.
- Provide academic support for students outside of class time as needed (during meeting time, before or after school).
- Collaborate with members of the Upper School World Language department to align lesson plans and curriculum.
- Submit grades and academic narrative comments at the end of the quarter.
- Participate in divisional, departmental, committee, and grade-team meetings.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Division Director.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in French or a related field
- 5+ years of experience teaching at the Upper School level
- Experience teaching at the AP, IB, or Honors level
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the secondary level
- Experience instructing a diverse student population
- Demonstrated understanding of cultural competency and full commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion work
- Willingness to broaden facility with classroom technology
- Ability to work with students in-person or virtually, as determined by the School
