Walnut Hill School for the Arts has an immediate opening for a full-time teacher or long-term substitute to teach five sections of Math. Applicants interested in either a full-time position or long-term substitution are encouraged to apply. 

Walnut Hill Math programs aim to prepare students for college level study by teaching the fundamentals of critical thinking, collaboration and communication. Classes enable students to explore all aspects of Mathematics with a personalized approach to teaching. Faculty enjoy the professional freedom to develop curricula that both challenges and supports our diverse community of student artists.

The Walnut Hill Math curriculum is organized as follows: Math 1, Math 2, and Math 3 are integrated courses that teach the foundational skills of Algebra, Trigonometry, Geometry, Statistics and Probability. Precalculus and Calculus are upper level electives for students who wish to pursue courses that go beyond the graduation requirements.

Responsibilities Include:

• Teaching 5 sections of Math including Math 2, Math 3, and Statistics or other classes based on the needs of the students and the department; 
• Prepare lessons and develop curriculum that reflects the diverse educational and cultural backgrounds of the student body; teach, lead, and guide students and promote an open and safe classroom space; and
• Utilize technology and other educational tools to support student learning.

Collaboration & Community Engagement:

• Serve as a Student Advisor; serve as a club advisor and/or chaperone school events and weekend duty;
• Participate in the School’s restorative practices initiative; actively learn about and practice anti-racist work;
• Work collaboratively with colleagues across all departments to foster a positive working and educational environment that supports the school’s mission, vision, and core values;
• Attend and participate in department meetings, faculty meetings, team-building exercises and trainings;
• Support students by attending student arts productions, shows, exhibitions, and performances; 
• Pursue professional development opportunities in and out of school; display willingness and ability to grow, learn, explore new approaches, and practice self-reflection; and
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• 2+ years teaching or equivalent experience required; experience working with high school students preferred; 
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience required, Master’s degree recommended;
• Wide repertoire of teaching skills including developing differentiated curriculum that suits a variety of learning styles;
• Comfort with technology and willingness to adopt new technologies as needed; strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google applications required;
• Innovative teaching practices and a focus on student-centered learning;
• Strong collaboration and team-oriented working and leadership skills;
• Possess cultural competence in working with diverse populations; 
• Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive community;
• Ability to speak authentically about the imperative for diversity, equity, and inclusion and comfort with cross-cultural dialogue; 
• Share an educational and artistic vision that aligns with the core principles of Walnut Hill; 
• Ability to balance a pursuit of academic, artistic, and institutional excellence with compassion and nurture for each individual; and
• Positive attitude and a passion for teaching and learning.
