This individual shall have full-time responsibility for providing highly engaging learning experiences in Art through a constructivist approach, and will create a supportive and positive climate that develops in each student the skills, attitudes, and knowledge to advance his/her/their artistic ability using current methodology, curricula, and materials. The position is temporary, and the employee needs to be collaborative in nature, willing and able to connect art to other disciplines (arts and beyond).

Art Teacher Duties and Responsibilities
- Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of art and implement a robust art program for Lower School and Upper School students and embrace a constructivist approach to teaching and learning
- Demonstrate personal skills and creative talents in art, and serve as a role model by cultivating these talents.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment, and current research.
- Establish and maintain standards of student control required to achieve effective participation in all activities in accordance with classroom management best practices and the School’s expectations.
- Be capable of working collaboratively with other teachers to integrate art into other content areas.
- Accompany and supervise students on field trips to museums, art galleries, and/or other appropriate and approved venues.
- Provide and supervise opportunities for students to demonstrate individually or in ensembles the skills and talents developed in the art program. Opportunities include but are not limited to: Open House, Winter Assembly, Grandfriends Day, etc. On occasion, these opportunities will fall outside the normal school day for teachers, including evenings and weekends.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student control required to achieve effective participation in all activities.
- Demonstrate the ability to use technology for communication and classroom purposes.
- Communicate with families through a variety of means
- Review, document, and update the art curriculum and implement modifications when appropriate so the curriculum serves as a framework for planning sequential learning experiences.
- Collaborate with and lead students on the design, development, and completion of the annual School yearbook.
Essential Job Functions
- Must be able to manage art supplies, equipment, tools, classrooms, and storage spaces. Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
- Have experience with and/or understanding of gifted education
- Communicate effectively in English
- Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving instructions, assignments, and/or directions from superiors.
- Requires the ability to prepare a variety of correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, lists, etc. Requires the ability to prepare correspondence, simple reports, forms, instructional materials, etc. using prescribed format(s).
- Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.
