As the oldest all-boys school in Washington, DC, Gonzaga College High School has been helping young men realize their potential since opening its doors in 1821. The school is part of a proven Ignatian educational model that traces its roots back to 1540 when St. Ignatius founded the Jesuit order. As a Jesuit school, Gonzaga encourages its students to see God in all things and to do everything for the greater glory, or as they say on campus “AMDG!” (Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam).
Situated in the shadow of our nation’s Capitol Building, Gonzaga also competes in arguably the most competitive athletic league for high school sports in our country. For over 20 years as Director of Athletics, a proud and dedicated Gonzaga alumnus Joe Reyda ’85 helped to shape the sports program at his alma mater and shepherd many coaches and scholar-athletics to great heights. Unexpectedly, Mr. Reyda died this past summer and Assistant Head for Student Life, Mr. Jim Kilroy, is serving as Interim Director of Athletics as the school launches a nationwide search for the position.
For a position that will begin in July 2024 or sooner, Gonzaga seeks its next leader of a robust and highly regarded athletics department—one who is responsible for the supervision of athletic department personnel including three assistant directors, a vibrant interscholastic athletic program with almost 50 teams across 18 sports, and the associated on-campus sports facilities and facility partners in the Washington, DC area. Most importantly, the next Director of Athletics will support Gonzaga’s student-athletes and ensure that the athletic programs complement the overall mission of the school and reflect Gonzaga’s values as a Jesuit institution. The position will report to the Assistant Head for Student Life.
The search committee is on a fast-track to identify and secure the next Director of Athletics. While the position description and detailed search prospectus are being prepared, interested candidates can begin exploring this exciting leadership opportunity by immediately contacting Kyle Pietrantonio at kpietrantonio@partnersinmission.com for more information.
