Ranney School seeks a long-term substitute science teacher to teach four classes in our Upper School: two sections of Honors Physics (9th grade, algebra-based), one section of AP Physics 2 (The College Board’s Advanced Placement curriculum), and one section of Engineering Design & Analysis (UT Austin’s Engineer Your World curriculum), with an estimated start date in late February.
To meet the needs of our growing program, Ranney also anticipates hiring another full-time teacher of Physics, Chemistry, and/or Computer Science to begin the 2024-2025 school year. Potential candidates for that opening who have availability are encouraged to apply for the leave replacement this spring.
Ranney School is an Age 3-Grade 12 independent, college preparatory school based in Tinton Falls, NJ. Our school serves a diverse body of approximately 700 students from across Monmouth & Ocean Counties on the northern New Jersey shore. A secular, college-preparatory day school, Ranney is guided by a strong Board of Trustees, an experienced Head of School, Dr. John Griffith, and most notably, by a powerful mission and vision. Our mission is “To nurture intellectual curiosity and confidence to inspire students to lead honorably, think creatively and contribute meaningfully to society.” We envision Ranney School as a nurturing learning community, in which families, faculty, alumni and all of Ranney’s constituents collaborate to distinguish and value every child, foster individual talents, sustain powerful connections between children and adults, and graduate resilient, globally-minded citizens. We continue to foster an inclusive community that supports a spectrum of cultures, beliefs and talents to promote the intellectual growth and moral development of all members of our community. We are inspired by an awareness and appreciation for diversity, human dignity and interpersonal acceptance.
Candidates will ideally have an advanced degree in a related field and experience teaching high school.
Key Skills, Qualities, and Responsibilities:
- Ability to teach four sections of Upper School science;
- Ability to “know and value” each student;
- In addition to a full-time schedule (typically five sections), faculty mentor students in co-curricular activities (coaching athletics, if possible), participate in division and department meetings, serve on school-wide committees and in various supervisory roles. Developing strong relationships with students and colleagues is critical for one’s success at Ranney and for the school’s successful accomplishment of its mission.
To Apply:
Please submit an application dossier compiled into one, single PDF file and emailed to Upper School Head Mr. Ted Parker (tparker@ranneyschool.org), and Science Chair, Dr. Roxanne Spencer (rspencer@ranneyschool.org).
The dossier must include:
- a cover letter specific to this position at Ranney,
- a CV/resume,
- a statement of educational philosophy, and
- a list of three to five professional references. References will not be checked without first notifying candidates.
The subject line of the email should read “Ranney School Physics Faculty.” Please name the PDF file with the following format: “[Applicant Last Name] Ranney Physics.”
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and priority will be given to applicants who apply before January 1, 2024.
