Director of College Counseling

Woodberry Forest School is looking for a strategic and enthusiastic Director of College Counseling to guide students along their journey to college and a path to learning beyond their high school education.

What we need from our Director:

• Offering relational advocacy for the boys as they navigate a path after Woodberry Forest.

• Providing strategic oversight of our college counseling program, working collaboratively with the Head of School and other members of the Executive Leadership Team.

• Managing day-to-day office functions and offering collaborative leadership and dynamic guidance to our four-person college counseling team.

• Building a developmentally appropriate program of self-reflection and discovery for our students, exposing them to all aspects of the college search process.

• Advising students and their families on all aspects of the college search and application process, supporting students in completing applications, engaging appropriately with families, and writing thoughtful letters of recommendation.

• Individually counseling 35 students per class; working with colleagues to match college counselors with students in the fifth form (junior) year.

• Representing the school at regional and national conferences and visiting colleges and universities regularly to understand the changing landscape of selective college admissions.

• Building strong relationships with colleagues in college and university admissions offices.

• Depending primarily on interest and secondarily on school needs, there could be opportunities to engage in teaching and coaching responsibilities.

At Woodberry, housing, home repair, utilities, and meals are provided by the school. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
