Summary: The Facilities Director supervises physical plant operations including all buildings and grounds, utilities, and energy management systems in order to provide a safe, healthy, and comfortable environment for students, faculty and staff. This position is responsible for the scheduling and supervision of maintenance and repair activities, contracted services (including custodial services), and ensures the physical operation of the school meets budgetary and strategic objectives. This position is also responsible for the overall safety and security of all students, staff, parents, and visitors to the Holy Child School at Rosemont campus. The Facilities Director acts as a role model of professionalism and supports the mission of the school.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supports the philosophy, policies, and goals of the school, as well as the decisions made by the Board of Trustees and Leadership team.
- Analyzes the financial details of past, present, and expected operations in order to identify building and equipment replacement, repair and upgrade needs and areas where improvement and growth are needed by developing and maintaining a 5-year strategic plan.
- Leads periodic review and renewal of all vendor relationships, driving fiscal responsibility and expense management. Preparing contracts with vendors.
- Examines school grounds, buildings, and surrounding environment for needed repairs and maintenance. Establish a comprehensive schedule of maintenance for the campus and facilities.
- Determines material, equipment, and supplies to be used for all jobs.
- Develops and monitors department budget, procures equipment and materials, and makes requests for capital outlay expenditures as needed. Works hand in hand with the Director of Finance & Operations.
- Directs, supervises, and evaluates department staff; ensures staff receives training related to specific job tasks and responsibilities.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with faculty, staff and school leadership about the status of work being performed. Use of multiple forms of communication (phone, email, meetings) required.
- Serves as campus security expert, staying apprised of best practices through professional development and networking.
- 7+ years of facility operations experience, at least 5 of which spent in a supervisory role, preferably in a school environment.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills, including ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with school faculty, staff, leadership team and Board of Trustees by fostering a culture of personal accountability, support, and service.
- Ability to inspect, operate and maintain all building systems: HVAC, Plumbing, Carpentry, Electrical, and Maintenance.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while running the day to day operations.
- Advise and/or respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis as needed.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as required.
- Demonstrated experience of identifying and implementing improvements to current processes including, but not limited to, safety, budget, mechanicals and communication.
- Proficient in the use of software for email, word-processing, spreadsheets and HVAC building management systems.
- Ability to effectively communicate information in written and oral format to all staff.
Physical Demands:
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability to work in both an office setting and throughout the entire campus. Position requires ability to traverse and inspect all areas of the campus, including construction areas in all types of weather. Physical demands require mobility to lift, carry, push and/or pull moderate amounts of weight, to operate office equipment, maintenance equipment and perform tasks related to repair and maintenance of plant and systems.
