Choate Rosemary Hall is now hiring a Development Officer. Reporting into the Director of Major Gifts, the Development Officer will join a talented team working to expand philanthropic support from alumni and parent donors for Choate’s educational programs, facilities, and endowment.
The Development Officer is responsible for identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of current and prospective donors capable of making gifts of $50,000+ to include 6-7 figure gifts. This position requires regular travel and includes some evening and weekend responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Manages and advances Choate’s philanthropic relationship with 150+ major gift prospects and donors within an assigned region.
- Works with the Director of Major Gifts to establish and achieve annual goals and develop and execute a donor-centric plan for each assigned prospect.
- Travels extensively to off-campus locations for individual visits and small group events.
- Works with colleagues and volunteers to coordinate annual, capital, and planned giving approaches for prospects.
- Maintains CRM with timely documentation of visits and communication.
- Prepares briefing materials, correspondence, proposals, and related communications.
- Stays up to date with Choate’s strategic plans, institutional priorities, funding needs, along with specific case gift opportunities.
- Works both independently and collaboratively to build successful relationships.
The ideal candidate will possess the following professional qualifications:
- Demonstrated commitment to the mission and expectations of an inclusive, highly regarded boarding school that provides transformative academic experience at high school level.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion and to serving the needs of a diverse community.
- 5+ years’ relevant experience in various aspects of development.
- Bachelor’s degree, masters preferred in related field.
- Demonstrated experience in fundraising and closing of major gifts, preferably in a private secondary school or college is highly desired or transferrable experience managing client relationships.
- Working knowledge of fundraising CRMs, and Microsoft Office suite.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with all audience types. Ability to present complex information in a clear and compelling manner.
- High degree of organizational skills with the ability to multi-task with accuracy.
- Maintains sensitive information with the utmost integrity and confidentiality.
- Results-oriented with the ability to meet deadlines and goals; think strategically; engage people with a variety of backgrounds and viewpoints.
- Analytical and creative problem-solving skills. Demonstrates initiative, resilience, and an entrepreneurial spirit.
