Friends’ Central School Overview
Friends’ Central School is an independent, coeducational Quaker day school founded in 1845 and serving approximately 819 students in Nursery through grade 12. Located in the Philadelphia suburbs, the School has two campuses. The Middle & Upper Schools are located just outside of West Philadelphia in Wynnewood, and the Lower School is on our Old Gulph Road campus in the heart of Wynnewood.

Middle School Long Term-Substitute Latin Teacher
Friends’ Central School seeks a long term substitute Middle School Latin teacher starting as soon as possible. The ideal candidate will demonstrate knowledge of the content area, have an understanding of the developmental needs of 11-to-14-year-old students, be committed to the School’s Quaker values and mission, and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. They will also be an enthusiastic, dynamic, and innovative teacher.
Responsibilities:
- Teach two sections of Latin I to 7th and 8th grade students.
- Teach two sections of a 6th grade introductory linguistics course titled Prima Lingua. (Curriculum provided)
- Participate in faculty committees, grade team meetings and faculty meetings.
- Help chaperone student activities that contribute to the life of the school.
Qualifications
- Experience teaching Middle School-aged students;
- Minimum of three years’ experience in an educational setting;
- Education: Bachelor's or Graduate level degree in history, the humanities and/or education.
Physical Demands
Physical demands include dexterity for office machines and supply operation including but not limited to writing, using electronic devices, computer, phone, calculator, copy machine, fax machine, and printers. Stooping, bending, reaching and sitting or standing for extended periods of time are common.
