Maintenance Mechanic
Browning is looking for a dedicated, hands-on, and experienced full-time Maintenance Mechanic for immediate hire to work in The Facilities Department. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in facilities maintenance with an ability to accomplish big projects and small tasks. Additionally, the Maintenance Mechanic must possess an enthusiastic commitment to developing Maintenance skills through professional development and training. This person will lead by example by displaying a high degree of professionalism and follow-through with a focus on delivering good customer service to the occupants of The Browning School at 52 East 62nd St. The starting hourly rate for this position is between $30-$35/hr depending on years of experience.
Key Responsibilities
Under the general direction of the Director of Facilities, the Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the coordination of daily maintenance operations of The Browning School, including HVAC, BMS, Electrical, Plumbing, and general maintenance work by the schools Facilities Department . The incumbent in this position works collaboratively with the Director of Facilities, ensuring that work orders are completed timely and accurately and that the DOF is continuously updated on the status of work order requests. This position is also subject to mandatory overtime when needed ,weeknights and some weekends.
Essential Duties:

Respond to emails from DOF to assist teachers with requests.

Supports DOF with all mechanical , electrical ,structural, BMS ,Fire suppression and extinguishers, elevators and other building systems;

Assists in supervision of contractors performing work in the School;

Assists in the planning and execution of maintenance-related aspects of scheduled School functions;

Remains open and flexible to personal schedule adjustments based on daily need;

Provides assistance to the Director of Facilities as needed; and

Performs related duties as assigned.

Job will be subject to assistance to the security department and maintenance cleaning crew on occasion.

Must be present for events during evenings and weekends.
Qualifications
A high school degree or equivalent is required. Must possess a minimum of six years of similar, professional maintenance experience, preferably in New York City, with a familiarity of local rules and regulations. Special Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability and willingness to participate fully in a dynamic day school located in New York City;

Organizational and supervisory skills;

Knowledge of various disciplines of facilities maintenance procedures;

Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing; fluency in Spanish a plus;

Proficiency in computers and related technology, including email, spreadsheets, databases and web-based research skills;

Ability to multitask, keep calm under pressure and treat everyone with respect;

Displays curiosity, a positive attitude, flexibility and a good sense of humor;

Ability to follow all policies and procedures of the School as written in the employee and parent handbooks.
Physical Conditions and Work Contacts:
Regularly required to stand; walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. This job is rated for heavy work. Ability to lift up to 100 lbs. occasionally and/or up to 50 lbs. frequently and/or up to 20 lbs. constantly to move objects.
