Job Description:
St. Andrew’s School seeks a full-time English teacher for the 2024-2025 academic year. St. Andrew’s was founded in 1929 as an independent, Episcopal boarding school. The school educates about 315 students from around the world each year in an all-residential setting, and has a long-standing commitment to financial aid and socioeconomic diversity. Our students and faculty come from a wide range of backgrounds, traditions, and experiences, and it is this variety that creates a vibrant and challenging learning environment that makes our worlds larger.
We’re looking for people who love literature, ideas, discussion, and writing. Candidates should believe in students and their ability to grow and develop, demonstrating a deep dedication to meeting the needs of diverse student learners. Candidates should show a lively interest in pedagogy, collaboration, and professional development, and an ongoing commitment to cultural competence.
The position will also involve full participation in the extracurricular and student life programs of this residential community.
Responsibilities:
- Four class sections;
- Two seasons of athletic coaching or two seasons of a major, non-athletic extracurricular program;
- Dormitory duty once or twice a week;
- Weekend duty once every four weekends;
- Participation in school committees and activities.
Job Requirements:
- Interested candidates should have a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in English, literature, or a closely related field; teaching experience is beneficial but not required.
- Candidates must have a passion for working with and living in community with adolescents.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or canceled, or disqualified from driving).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Candidates with the experience to coach any of our sports programs will be given strong consideration in this search. Currently, our search includes boys or girls squash, boys or girls tennis, football, boys or girls lacrosse, field hockey, soccer, and wrestling but we are not limited to this. Candidates with these qualifications should highlight them in their application materials.
