Position Summary
Detroit Country Day School is seeking substitute teachers for PK3 – 3rd grade. The ideal applicant should have experience and enjoy working with elementary school students. Substitute Teachers provide classroom instruction and support in the classroom teacher's absence. The positions are on-call, working half or full workdays. The hours of work are between 7:45 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Essential Duties
- Deliver lesson plans and activities provided by classroom teachers
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
- Responsible for the health and safety of assigned students
- Implement school emergency procedures as necessary
- Collaborate with faculty, students, parents, and administrators as appropriate
- Perform other assigned teacher duties, as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, required
- Teaching Certification, preferred
- A minimum of 1-3 years of experience, preferred
- Flexible and willing to adapt to change on short notice
- Strong classroom management skills
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Collaborative team player
- Exceptional judgement and ability to maintain confidentiality
Physical Requirements
- Regular standing and walking for extended periods of time
- Frequent bending or stooping

The Lower School (PreK-3) is located nearby in neighboring Bloomfield Hills. The Detroit Country Day Upper School offers a strong and varied program that provides numerous opportunities for students to demonstrate their individual strengths and develop their potential. The rigorous college-preparatory program, which includes Honors and Advanced Placement courses in each discipline in addition to a diverse selection of electives, prepares students for college and beyond.
