Applewild School is seeking a Physical Education Teacher/Coach & Summer Day Camp Director to join their faculty. Reporting to the Assistant Head of School and the Director of Athletics, this position is responsible for teaching physical education to grades kindergarten through fourth grade, and will coach a middle school sport each season. This person will also be the “boots on the ground” for running the summer day camp program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Ensure that the physical education, coaching, and day camp functions are delivered in alignment with Applewild’s Core Values and Core Competencies and follow best practices.
Job duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Teach physical education to students in grades K-4
- Coach one sport each season (XC, Soccer, Basketball, strength & conditioning, LAX, Field Hockey, &/or Track & Field). This includes driving students to and from interscholastic competitions.
- Perform schoolhouse duties such as supervising drop-off/pick up, recess, lunch.
- Participate in school events such as Field Day and Harvest Fair
- Organize the daily summer camp schedule, participate in the hiring of counselors, and support / supervise counselors.
- Daily hours are 8:00-4:30 on non-game days, and 10:00-6:00 on game days (2-3 days/week) during the school year, and camp hours during the summer.
- Other duties as assigned
- A bachelor's degree, preferably in sports physiology, physical education, or related.
- A minimum of two to five years of relevant experience.
- Experience in a leadership role in summer camp
- Cognitive flexibility and the ability to creatively problem-solve.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Google Suite applications.
- Must be able and willing to drive a 14-passenger van, and have a clean driving record
- Demonstrated project management skills.
- A strong work ethic and unwavering integrity.
- Be able to pass a criminal records background check.
- Preference will be given to those with lifeguarding or WSI certification, or the willingness to obtain these certifications.
