Summary:
The Director of Residence will be focused primarily on staff leadership, student support and development, activities and administrative duties. The Director of Residence will oversee the supervision of students living in the residence dormitory and promote the mission and goals of residence life at The Hill Academy. They will be an effective leader for Residence staff and students and ensure that policies and procedures are followed at all times.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Team Leadership
- Provide leadership and support to the Residence staff in the development of a positive
residence community
- Chair meetings with the Residence Staff on a weekly basis
- Be available on a regular basis, including evenings and weekends as needed, to provide support
and assistance to staff, and address concerns
Programming/Administrative Duties
- Serve as a resource for the creation of positive and engaging weekend activities for full-time residence students
- Employ risk management principles when planning and implementing activities
- Enforce the policies and guidelines laid out in The Hill Academy Residence Handbook and Code of Conduct for Live-In Staff
Residence Life
- Set an example as a role model by encouraging acceptable social behavior and enforcing and abiding by all policies and procedures
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all residence students
- Have a thorough understanding of health and safety procedures, and ensuring that students understand all policies related to fire safety and evacuation procedures.
Enforcing Resident Community Standards and Guidelines
- Thorough knowledge of The Hill Academy Residence Handbook
- Clearly communicate to all students, behaviour expectations, guidelines and procedures at the beginning of the school year, such as:
- Meal times, study hall and curfews
- Weekend schedules/ free time for full-time residents
- Sign in and out procedures
- Visitors
Student Support and Parent Communication
- To ensure students have access to proper care and support services, communicate regularly regarding individual student needs, reporting concerns and incidents as needed, keeping parents informed, and responding to parents in a timely manner.

Skills & Qualifications:
- Previous experience living in a residence setting at an educational institution
- First Aid & CPR certification. If you are not certified within first six (6) months, you will be required to complete certification as part of your role
- Must have a valid G Driver’s License
- Strong Communication & Conflict Resolution skills
- High standards of attendance and punctuality
- Adaptable and flexible
Special Considerations:
- Desire and willingness to live in the dormitory building in order to provide care and supervise residence students
- Willingness to work varied hours including evenings, weekends, statutory holidays and be on-call to support Residence Don Staff and the unique needs of the students
- Supervise some evenings per week (nights to be determined; hours to be detailed g. 4pm to 10pm / on call/available 10pm to 7am) to provide direct supervision, study hall, entertainment and recreational activities
- Know the whereabouts of all students at all times while on duty
