Burke’s offers competitive compensation with a salary range of $66,028 - $144,571 based on years of experience plus advanced degree stipends, prorated for the percentage of the school year that is a leave position. Position Description
As a mission-driven school, Burke’s is seeking a Physical Education Teacher and Advisor for a leave position for grades 5-8 who can bring to life the mission of the school while working with students to further develop their motor skills and ability to care for their bodies and minds through movement. The ideal candidate enjoys working collaboratively as part of a team, possesses knowledge of child and adolescent development, and enjoys working with middle school aged children. In addition to teaching PE, responsibilities include advising a group of students to support social-emotional learning and strong learning habits.
Job Responsibilities include:
- Teaching Upper School PE (Grades 5-8) & Advisory; this includes:
- Reporting on student progress once using checklist/narrative report cards
- Preparing advisees for and supporting them in a student-led parent conference in March
- Accompanying advisees on outdoor education trip in March
- Communication:
- Effective communication with colleagues in support of a collegial and collaborative professional community
- Timely and supportive communication with students, parents, and caregivers to foster a strong partnership with families
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with Lower School and Upper School PE teams as well as Sixth Grade Advising team
- Attend and participate in weekly faculty meetings
- Supervisory duties as needed

- Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent
- Experience teaching and demonstrated knowledge of child and adolescent physical development
