Kamehameha Schools Kapalama is searching for a College Athletics Placement Coordinator to join our Athletics division. Help prepare student athletes and their families as they begin to think about their next steps, while guiding them through the process of building their unique brand as a college-bound student athlete through resumes, social media, and video highlights. This role will build a program to work with students from Intermediate through High School and beyond. Travel will be expected one to two times per year to visit cluster colleges. Job Summary
Facilitates the holistic development of the Kamehameha Schools (KS) student-athlete. Represents KS to universities and colleges in establishing and maintaining opportunities and contacts to consider KS student-athletes for placement and participation in various sports programs at the college level. Develops and maintains an athletic recruiting framework that is accessible to all KS student-athletes and their parents. Coordinates video analysis software management for all sports, and trains coaches, students and families on how to best utilize the software. Attends and supervises athletic events as assigned and ensures the health and safety of the student athletes and all in attendance.
Essential Responsibilities
Relationships and Network
- Develops and maintains a solid network of relationships with athletic programs at the collegiate level to create opportunities and pathways for KS student-athletes who wish to pursue intercollegiate athletics in higher education.
- Acts as a liaison between high school coaches, athletes, and college coaches to facilitate effective communication and showcase the athletes’ talents. Serves as the primary contact for college coaches visiting KS campus.
- Develops and maintains a network with social, professional, civic, volunteer, and community agencies having interest in Kamehameha Athletics.
Recruiting Framework Development
- Oversees an athletic recruiting framework that is accessible to all KS student-athletes and their parents. Assesses, aligns and supports student athletes who have potential to participate in intercollegiate athletics through education, and guidance. Serves as a liaison between college coaches and KS student-athletes.
- Works with Counselors to educate parents in the college application/recruiting process. Promotes the building of character and sportsmanship to include discipline of ethical behavior and mindset.
Planning and Execution
- As a member of the Athletic Administrative team, actively participates in the development and implementation of department philosophy, policies and procedures. Engages in various strategic planning initiatives for all aspects of the Athletic Department. Plans and executes initiatives and special projects assigned by the Athletic Director. Ensures that all special projects are actively moving forward by monitoring assigned personnel and programs.
- Attends and supervises athletic events as assigned, and ensures the safety of students-athletes and all in attendance. Ensures the health, safety and good sportsmanship of all groups, including parents and other KS spectators.
- Organize informational sessions, workshops, and seminars for athletes and their families to educate them about the college athletics recruitment process. Cover topics such as NCAA regulations, scholarship opportunities, academic planning, Name Image and Likeness(NLI) and athletic development.
- Maintain accurate records of athlete profiles, recruitment progress, and outcomes. Track and report on the success and achievements of athletes who transition to college athletics.
- Ensure athletes meet NCAA or other relevant sports association eligibility requirements.
- Assist athletes in completing required paperwork, forms, and applications for both athletic scholarships and admissions.
Video Analysis Software Management
- Serves as the Administrator of video analysis software for the Athletic Department and provides education, guidance, and assistance in the use of the video analysis software program.
- Advise athletes on creating compelling resumes, highlight reels, and portfolios to showcase their skills and achievements.
Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the requirements listed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Communication, Counseling, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of related work experience to include but not limited to athletics in a school or directly related athletic or sports environment.
- Strong knowledge of college athletics recruitment processes and NCAA regulations.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to establish and maintain relationships with athletes, families, high school staff, and college coaches.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail in managing athlete records and documentation.
- Understanding of academic requirements for college admissions and athletic scholarships.
- Experience working with high school student athletes.
- Demonstrated effective conflict resolution skills with various constituencies including administrators, teachers, coaches, parents and/or other members of the community.
- Demonstrated computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets and database programs.
- Familiarity with video analysis software.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk or hear.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
- Occasionally stand and/or walk, write by hand, and lift and/or carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh up to 50 pounds.
- Rarely twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.
