We are seeking a full-time, 5-month leave replacement from January - June 2024 for our high school psychologist/counselor. The primary responsibility is managing the mental health and well-being of our students through partnering with teachers, administrators, parents, and outside professionals. The psychologist/counselor will provide strategies of prevention, intervention, and remediation to assist students and other members of the Dalton community in developing effective coping skills and responses to their environment. This position is classified as exempt.
Responsibilities:
Students
- Counseling - Provide short-term and individual counseling for students struggling with social, emotional, and behavioral problems. Support student understanding of identity as individuals and as part of a diverse community. Speak with parents and coordinate outside services both for evaluations and counseling/psych services.
- Review of Student Evaluations/Assessments - Neuropsych and Psycho-Educational Review. Primary areas of focus include reviewing reports, summarizing highlights, and communicating with teachers and learning support team members for students of concern. Continued review and interpretation of evaluation process with Learning Support Team.
- Guidance Meetings - Attend high school guidance meetings and contribute relevant information on students seen in counseling sessions. Assess need for referral to Guidance team or outside specialists.
- Student Notes & Information - Student information and session notes are kept in the school’s confidential August Schools database.
Parents
- Consult as needed. Provide help with parent interactions and conflicts.
- Provide support and outside referrals for parents on family issues such as divorce, illness, substance abuse, financial/job concerns, reproductive issues, personal struggles.
Qualifications:
- Licensed Master level (LCSW or LPC) or PhD, Psy.D, mental health clinician
- Experience with high school aged students
