CTO Position Statement
St. John's College High School is an Independent, Catholic, Co-ed school in the Lasallian tradition. Founded in 1851, St. John’s provides a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, an expansive extracurricular program, and an opportunity for students to grow in their faith by encountering the tenets of a Lasallian education.
The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) is responsible for providing the vision, leadership, planning and management of information technology systems and services to advance the mission of SJC. The CTO will set the strategic direction and be personally involved with practical implementation across all areas of development, acquisition, implementation, and support. By effectively managing and maintaining the technology resources, the CTO will help to create an environment that fosters innovation, enhances learning experiences, and meets the diverse needs of faculty, staff, and students.
The CTO develops long-range and annual plans, which support and respond to the school’s Catholic, Lasallian mission and its strategic and operational plans. In keeping with the school’s collaborative and collegial environment, the CTO will be responsible for promoting a school culture of regular, enthusiastic, and responsible use of technology in both the instructional and administrative efforts.
The CTO will support an innovative classroom environment and act as a resource for educational technology initiatives. The school has a robust 1:1 iPad program, uses Canvas as the learning management system, and Powerschool as the student information system. Collaboration, communication, and curation are hallmarks of the school’s 21st century classroom, and the CTO will play a significant role in building upon the vision of the school as it embarks on new opportunities to fuse technology and learning.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Lead the school’s information technology staff, fostering a service-oriented, collaborative, and efficient environment capable of addressing the diverse needs of SJC and its constituents; assess needs and ensure an outstanding approach towards technology for academic and administrative functions; communicate proactively to solicit and identify new opportunities to develop value-added academic and business products and services.
- Ensure the operation of school devices and the overall IT infrastructure. This includes managing the school’s network, servers, software applications, and user support systems.
- Sustain relationships with vendors and third-party IT consultants and managed-service providers
- Support faculty in utilizing resources, and facilitating opportunities for increased understanding of hardware, software, and educational technology strategies
- Report clearly and regularly to stakeholders on progress towards objectives.
- Contribute to the infusion of educational technology into classrooms, library, and offices by providing highly motivating, full-time, professional leadership in all areas of technology planning and technology resource management.
- Manage substantial departmental budget and annual and long-term budget initiatives.
- Remain current on technology advancements, emerging standards and regulations, and industry trends relevant to the school’s ongoing success. Stay abreast of major information technology initiatives across peer schools, incorporating them whenever they may further the school’s mission.
- Collaborate with the President and Principal to meet strategic technology goals.
- The CTO reports directly to the Vice President of Finance and Administration and is a member of the school’s Academic Council.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
- A Masters degree, preferred, in a related discipline
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in technology management, preferably in an educational environment and in progressively responsible roles.
- Demonstrated success in meeting the complex needs of demanding end-users.
- Familiarity with Macintosh platform as well as iPad management and deployment
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, as well as speaking and presentation skills
- Proven supervisory and staff development skills coupled with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituents in a diverse community.
- Flexibility, proactivity, and enjoyment for working adolescents and adults in a learning community.
