Ojai Valley School is a pre-kindergarten to grade 12 independent boarding and day school located on
two campuses in Ojai, California. The Lower Campus serves students in grades PK-8 and the Upper
Campus serves students in grades 9-12.
Summary of Position:
Ojai Valley School has an immediate opening for an Associate Director of Development for Alumni
Relations and Constituent Engagement to support alumni outreach, communications and fundraising.
The Associate will serve as a key member of the Development team, managing alumni social media
accounts, planning alumni events, coordinating mailings, responding to alumni inquiries, and assisting
the Director of Development with fundraising, volunteer management and donor stewardship. The ideal
candidate will be self-motivated, collaborative, and detail-oriented with the ability to multitask, take
direction, and work independently in a fast-paced environment. The position reports to the Director of
Development. The candidate must have strong writing skills to deliver clear, concise communications in
a timely manner and the ability to liaison in a warm and positive manner with alumni from different eras
and countries, volunteers, faculty and staff, parents, grandparents, and students who taken together
comprise the diverse Ojai Valley School community.
Main areas of focus and responsibility:
• Serve as the Associate Director of Development for Alumni Relations and Constituent Engagement,
a community builder who is the primary point of contact for inquiries and opportunities from our
alumni
• Take an entrepreneurial approach to reestablishing a vibrant, engaging and broadly inclusive alumni
program that is research based, data driven and appropriate to the culture of OVS
• Envision and execute all aspects of an annual, memorable, fun, well-attended Alumni Weekend
• Envision and execute a robust calendar of meaningful events, including the Spud Classic,
Pons Dinner and the Senior-to-Alumni Dinner
• Play an active role in the planning and logistical support for the Gala including, recruiting
parent volunteers, securing underwriting and sponsorships, and soliciting donations
• Partner with the Communications Department to suggest and facilitate Alumni highlights
• Develop Alumni publication content
• Assist in updating alumni database to maintain accurate and current information
• Initiate and support efforts to actively engage current students and young alumni to stay
connected with each other and the school
• Assist the Director in coordinating department mailings, events, and other appeals
• Recommend and implement new alumni initiatives, working with alumni, faculty and staff, past
parents and students in support of the school’s strategic goals to engage alumni worldwide and
create more opportunities for alumni and student connections
The candidate should have demonstrated ability to work and succeed in a team environment, experience
and comfort with technology and data management, and the ability to organize and manage multiple
projects and priorities. Preference will be given to individuals who have worked at an independent
school, particularly in a boarding school environment. Professionalism and confidentiality is required.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Duties:
Communications and Alumni Outreach:
1. Accurately and enthusiastically communicate information about the School’s mission, academic
and co-curricular programs, future plans, and campaign goals to current families, alumni, and
prospective donors with a goal of sustaining alumni engagement and increasing philanthropy
2. Manage events, including Alumni Weekend, Pons Dinner, the Senior-to-Alumni Dinner, class
reunions, alumni receptions and regional gatherings
3. Assist in the planning and coordination of both the Spud Classic and the Annual Gala
4. Initiate and support efforts to actively engage current students and young alumni to stay
connected with each other and the School
5. Assist in the production of alumni publications, including the bi-annual Family Tree magazines
6. Manage alumni social media accounts
7. Stay informed of campus news and events to share with alumni and past parent constituencies
8. Respond to alumni inquiries in a timely, professional and welcoming manner
9. Assist in updating alumni database to keep information current and accurate
10. Collaborate with faculty members on both campuses regarding alumni outreach
11. Maintain a warm and positive attitude in interactions with faculty, alumni, parents, students, and
community members in support of the School’s mission and future goals
12. Tour alumni when they visit campus
13. Travel as needed to meet alumni and donors
Fundraising:
1. Coordinate and execute prospect mailings and other outreach for donor cultivation, solicitation
and stewardship
2. Assist with Annual Fund, Planned Giving and Capital Campaign solicitations
3. Assist in planning of Annual Fund and Capital Campaign appeals, including but not limited to
print and electronic communications, special events, and committee meetings
Other Duties:
1. Support and assist the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees
2. Support School rules and regulations, adhering to the guidelines of the Faculty Training Manual
3. Other related duties as determined by the Director of Development

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Candidates for this position should hold a Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university;
previous experience in event planning, fundraising and/or communications is preferred.
