Job Summary:
Under minimal supervision, provides an exemplary instructional experience in the classroom, and supports students, parents, and other community members in realizing our Guiding Principles. Provides an optimal, age-appropriate Spanish immersion-style classroom learning environment, teaching students the beauty of a second language (Spanish) in an engaging way. Abides by our Framework for Professional Standards.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Teaches fourth through sixth grade Spanish classes
- Plans and implements Spanish curriculum and unit plans
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of teaching practices and a commitment to teaching within a caring, highly academic environment
- Promotes field of Spanish education within school community by creating school events, participating in interdisciplinary projects, developing and attending field trips, and building connections with native speakers in local and international communities
- Participates in Middle School Division and Spanish Department meetings
- Helps with recess and lunch duties
- Observes laws and the school’s policies, procedures and regulations which have application to and implication for the professional’s responsibilities
- Is familiar with and complies with all policies and regulations as put forth in the school’s documents
- Since safety and security are everyone’s responsibility, takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials and facilities
- Performs other duties as assigned
Required Education & Experience:
- A Bachelor’s Degree, with an emphasis in elementary and/or middle school education or related areas from a four-year college or university required
- Master’s Degree in elementary and/or middle school education or related areas preferred
- 2+ years of combined teaching experience required, 5+ years of combined teaching experience preferred
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Native or near-native proficiency in both Spanish and English
- Strong knowledge of culture and history of Spanish-speaking areas
- Familiarity with current learning theories and basic principles of human growth and development and ability to consider them in the design and implementation of learning experiences
- Excellent classroom management skills
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of the children and program
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidential information
- Ability to work collaboratively in team situations
- Ability to work efficiently in a Microsoft Windows environment using Microsoft Office, master common automated systems for record keeping, and learn new technology
- Ability to work and communicate well with students, families, faculty and staff
- Some travel may be required (field trips)
