SUMMARY
The Director of Equity & Inclusion serves as a member of the school’s senior administrative team and works to ensure that Greenhill, as set forth in its founding and affirmed by its mission statement, is an exemplar of diversity, equity, and inclusion for all stakeholders. The director maintains a highly visible presence within the school community, engaging individually and collectively with students, faculty, staff, parents, the Board of Trustees, alumni, as well as the greater external community.
The Director of Equity & Inclusion interacts with a variety of constituent groups, synthesizes information from different perspectives, makes decisions, forwards recommendations to the Head of School, and shares information broadly to build consensus and support for action. The Director of Equity & Inclusion, with the support and engagement of all school leaders, leads and manages the ongoing work of transforming Greenhill into a fully inclusive community where all members know they belong and are valued.
This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt position that requires some night and weekend work.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The school seeks an outstanding educator for its Director of Equity & Inclusion position who will:
- provide student, employee, and family education and support;
- partner with the Director of Academics and other divisional and department leaders on curricular assessment and design;
- work with the Board of Trustees' DEI Designee to plan Board education and training;
- participate and partner with the Admission team to help meet Greenhill’s admission goals;
- assist with employee recruitment, retention, and support;
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will exhibit:
- an active and ongoing commitment to increasing her/his/their own cultural competency as an equity and inclusion practitioner;
- effective cross-cultural communication skills, demonstrating the ability to listen compassionately, nurture dialogue, think critically and strategically, and problem-solve;
- openness, strong relationship-building, and collaboration skills;
- culturally competent leadership, facilitation, and mentorship skills;
- effective time-management skills and a capacity for strategic thinking;
- the ability to interpret and thoughtfully manage the personal, political, and institutional dynamics related to leading and managing diversity, equity, and inclusion work in the independent school environment.
The ideal candidate must:
- have 5+ years of leadership experience in a diverse educational institution, with demonstrable experience leading and sustaining programs while continually building community;
- have experience teaching, training, and building educational programming;
- have experience working with students in a prekindergarten – Grade 12 setting;
- have a bachelor’s degree; a master’s degree is preferred.
