Job Description:
Trinity Episcopal School, an independent institution with 515 students in grades 8-12 located in Richmond, Virginia, is seeking an Athletic Director to oversee our entire athletics program. Our student-athletes are renowned not only for their athletic abilities, but also for their sportsmanship and success in the classroom. Position Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in athletics, education, or a related field
- Master's degree in a pertinent field (athletics or education) is preferred
- Experience in coaching high school athletes; prior experience in an Athletic Director leadership position is preferred
- Strong knowledge of many sports, especially those offered by the school, along with certification in first aid, CPR, and imPACT testing
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Support for and the ability to further the Trinity mission and philosophy
The Athletic Director holds responsibility for all aspects of the school's athletic program, encompassing interscholastic teams, strength and conditioning, athletic training, scheduling, hiring, transportation, safety, and facilities for all school athletic activities. Due to the nature of the job, the director's hours may vary based on school and team schedules and activities.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Support the school and its leadership, reporting to the Head of School and working collaboratively with other school leaders
- Demonstrate a functional knowledge of all sports and activities under the athletics umbrella to ensure proper instruction, facilities and game set-up and administration
- Craft timely and mission-centered communication with students, parents and other community members (e.g., Morning Meeting)
- Ensure that all coaching positions are filled with qualified coaches who perform their duties with a high level of professionalism and in alignment with the school's mission
- Lead and provide guidance for the athletic department staff
- Oversee scheduling of all athletic contests, athletic facilities, arrange athletic transportation and hire game officials
- Operate within an allocated budget and work in conjunction with the finance office
- Ensure the health and safety of student-athletes
- Oversee and support the college recruitment process for interested student-athletes
- Plan and oversee National Letter of Intent or celebratory signings
- Keep current with upcoming information in high school athletics including Name, Image and Likeness and the right of publicity and the potential impact for athletes, our school, league etc.
- Ensure the proper maintenance and security of all athletic equipment and facilities, fields and courts, working in coordination with the facilities and maintenance team
- Comfort with and willing to use and support the use of Magnus Health Portal and other technology related to information technology, streaming etc.
- Collaborate with the Communications and Marketing staff to recognize athletic achievements within the community and to the public
- Maintain accurate records of team and individual athletic accomplishments for archival purposes
- Represent the school at various state, regional, and national athletic associations
- Participate in the full life of the school and attend to other duties as assigned

The 40-acre campus, located just south of the James River in suburban Richmond, Virginia, includes 32 classrooms, student commons, library, computer labs and technology center. New to the campus are the Estes Athletic Center and Aycock Stadium, completed in 2011, and the renovated Perkinson Arts Center, with new facilities for music and the visual arts, completed in 2013. The college-preparatory academic program features innovative electives, a rigorous curriculum and opportunities for creative expression. Trinity also fields more than 40 teams for athletic participation. Trinity is accredited by the Virginia Association of Independent Schools and is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools.
The annual operating budget is $8.5 million. Trinity is committed to an inclusive community that reflects the socioeconomic diversity of the greater Richmond area. More than 80% of parents support annual giving, which generates $375,000 for the operating budget each year. Since 2007, more than $7.5 million has been raised for capital improvements.
