Shady Side Academy’s Senior School World Languages Department is seeking a long-term Spanish teacher substitute starting November 27, 2023. Assuring a very high level of rigor and scholarship, the long-term substitute will teach four sections of intermediate Spanish courses and lead an advisory of 8 to 10 students.
Classroom Responsibilities
- Prepare and execute thoughtful units of study designed to challenge and engage students in advanced intermediate Spanish classes.
- Collaborate closely with departmental colleagues to ensure integration and consistency of curriculum.
- Regularly assess student learning using a variety of tools and means throughout and maintain regular communication with parents and administrators about student progress.
- Maintain a safe and engaging learning environment.
- Consistently and clearly communicate with colleagues, administrators, and parents regarding progress, growth, and goals.
Qualifications
Fluency in oral and written Spanish and experience teaching Spanish is required. A bachelor’s degree in Spanish, or another modern language if a native speaker, is required. Ideal candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to a high level of academic rigor, a growth mindset, a passion for working with and teaching adolescents, a flexible, pro-active, and team-oriented approach, excellent written and oral communication skills, exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, an ability to multitask and prioritize workload, superior interpersonal skills, and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Smartboards, and/or other technology directly linked to working and teaching at Shady Side Academy.
