Mackintosh Academy - Boulder, a co-educational independent school serving gifted students in K through 8th, is seeking a LS Math Specialist (50%) for the 2023-2024 school year. Mackintosh Academy presents an exceptional opportunity to work with bright, dedicated, and creative students and colleagues in a highly innovative and naturally beautiful setting. Our excellent student-teacher ratios allow for individualized instruction and education of the whole child. Preference will be given to candidates with experience and training in working with children at this level. 

The Lower School Math Specialist will support students by:

• Coaching teachers so that they can best differentiate instruction for their students

• Providing instruction and/or intervention for groups of students

• Providing extension resources for teachers to help with students who need appropriate challenges

• Creating and implementing school wide opportunities to celebrate, explore, and connect math to the larger world

• Directly working with or supporting families in finding outside support for highly gifted mathematical learners (2-3+ years above grade level)

• Working to create a culture of joy and excitement for mathematical play and learning

The Lower School Math Specialist will support families by:

• Working with families to find additional resources such as activities, tutors, camps, and programs to support both academic needs as well as opportunities to continue growing mathematical passions

• Providing parent education regarding mathematical development, family math opportunities, and hosting a family math night

The Lower School Math Specialist will support teachers and the school by: 

• Providing coaching opportunities that model and support best practices in mathematics instruction

• Collaborating with teachers to share and develop problem solving resources, mathematical projects, and U of I or specials area connections to math

• Serving as part of a math advisory group to assist the Lower School Director in evaluating math curricula with an eye toward student progress and K-8 alignment

• Working with teachers, math leads, and Division Heads to refine grade level scope and sequences, assessment procedures, and supplemental materials

• Collaborating with teachers to create intervention or extension opportunities for students

• Maintaining solid, frequent and effective communication with parents, colleagues, and administration. Participate as possible in staff meetings, retreats, and on various committees. Supports the overall mission of the school. 

Credentials and Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s Degree required. Masters degree, experience as a lead teacher and math interventionist, and knowledge of gifted students highly preferred.

• Applicants must be self-starters, able to work both collaboratively and independently, with a strong attention to detail and a proven ability to meet deadlines.

• Salary range: $27,000-$34,000 dependent on experience.
